Driving to the end of the road can be bit hectic for some people as it is dirt gravel road and rather narrow at places. But once you get there, it is absolute bliss. You can go hiking on Hillary Trail, or stroll in the...More

One of the places worth visiting in Auckland, Whatipu Beach is very beautiful, and probably the best in Auckland. We've also camped here. Nice atmosphere.

Not the easiest beach to access on the West Coast but it is quite wild and worth a visit if you're looking for something more adventurous

amazing beaches you can visit while in Auckland (well besides Kare Kare, Piha, Bethels etc :)), black sand all the way, miles and miles to walk (no swimming due to the currents) and a extraordinary landscape (especially on a sunny day or the rain and...More

Especially liked the Kura and Puriri trials. throughout the Omanawhanui trail was a bit too much of a challenge for a sceinc walk. The caves walk also a nice gentle walk to really cool caves. The beach is quiet and gets great sunsets.

Whatipu beach and regional park boasts wild and rugged west coast beach and three or possibly more caves along a scenic 1-hour return bush walk. Not so great with little ones as at places the walking trail is too narrow and surrounded by outgrown bush....More

It's a very hard walk to Whatipu Beach and campsite from Huia but well worth it. Steep slopes that'll take a few hours walking, or about 10 minutes by car! The campsite there is in an excellent location and near to the beach (5 minute...More

The beautiful drive through winding bush leads to this glorious, wild, piece of NZ's West Coast. A coffee stop at the Huia General store and then onto Whatipu beach. Park in the gravel carpark at the roads end and continue to take in the breath-taking...More
