We really enjoyed strolling through the gallery one a rainy afternoon. We especially appreciated that it was free to visit, since we weren't sure how long we would last given the jet lag we were suffering from. It turned out to be a great place...More

This is a fantastic gallery. I took one of the free volunteer guided tours and the guide was wonderful - she was friendly and informative, and provided some excellent context and personal insights about a selection of the works and the architecture. The collection is...More

The show we wished to see had ended the day before. The gift shop was very limited. Altogether a disappointment.

While my wife looked at a special paid event my daughter and I joined in a free kids program. Plenty of local and international art on display and all housed in a fantastic building blending modern and early 20th century architecture. Nice cafe, good gift...More

If you like art and a variety of displays this is a must do - parking can be a bit of a challenge and the Victoria Street Car Park is probably as good a choice as any.

The artwork had a wide range of styles and there was an interactive piece in one where a woman with a beautiful operatic voice sang as part of the artist's display...Beautiful both visually and auditorially (if that's a word...by ear anyway).

An international quality piece of design creating a wonderful envelope for an eclectic collection. Great museum shop & cafe all set on the edge of Albert park in the centre of the city

A beautiful space I come back to every time I'm in Auckland. This time I took a free guided tour, after attending the excellent "Body Laid Bare" exhibition. The guide was informative, interesting to listen to and was clearly knowledgeable and passionate about art history...More

Ive never seen an art museum go into so much detail with their piece descriptions. I wish the MET in NY was more detailed, I learned a lot about the history of art in New Zealand and the Maori people. Had a fantastic time!

The Auckland Art Gallery is an amazing building and is worth the visit just to see the building! It is also free to visit except for any special exhibits. It provided an interesting view of NZ art, and the Maori portraiture was amazing.

There is a gallery of older style paintings that you see in English art galleries but generally focuses on modern and Maori art

The museum has a wider collection - many rare "historical/heritage" works of art pertaining to New Zealand
