Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dirty, smelly, shambolic and full of homeless people.
Unfortunately this part of Auckland is sadly neglected and not well maintained. There is the distinct odour of rats’ carcasses from a building site near the Asian district, which is smelly, unclean and with walls covered in tagging graffiti. There are mountains of uncollected rubbish along the Queen St area.
Seemingly every shop front has a vagrant lying on the ground asking for food or money.
Admittedly much of the chaos is caused by the major roadworks taking place, limited room for footpaths, which are uneven in places.
Make sure you make time to visit other parts of this urban centre - and avoid the CBD if you can.

We were staying a block away from Queen St in Albert St.
We visited Queen St which is the main shopping street in Auckland. Part of this street is blocked off to traffic so pedestrian only acces.
I didnt find it very inspiring and we spent very little time here.

It's a rather busy street with many shops and restaurants up and down the road and on adjacent streets. You could take a short walk or do some serious shopping here. It's not the cleanest street but you can even walk all the way down to the harbor or up a couple of blocks to Albert Park.

This street has from your very expensive to your average price shopping. Easy walking. My advice is don't forget to have a look down some of the wee side streets that run off it. Lots of car parking around but it can be expensive.

The day was very ugly. rain. humidity. Maybe it was not the best day to enjoy a central street. But I have been in 2019 as well and it is not a pleasant street considering that it is the main street in Auckland. It looks dark with little brightness. The atmosphere is not pleasant either... I didn't like it too much.

Queen Street is a go to place to get a feel for down town Auckland. There are plenty of good shops to explore as well as food or snack places. There are little side streets that are good for food too. It is a down hill walk towards the port but a climb up going away from the port. Lots of locals, tourists and homeless people. Go for a stroll.

Queen Street is the best place to go shopping in Auckland. I recently visited Great Kiwi Yarns, a Merino knitwear shop. It was amazing. Their woolen clothes were beautiful and luxurious, with all types of sweaters and jackets. The staff was very kind, never pushing but on the contrary, always listening to the customer's expectations. A very highly recommended place!

Panhandler and tramps seem to occupy the high ground outside every ATM and shops. This is in high contrast to the absolute absence of any Police or private security. The classic was a cluster of beggars smoking ice outside The Art Gallery.

I lived on queen street for 3 months the place is really vibrant and lively the only thing i did not like is there are beggars every 100 meters and they are rude many times if you go in around late evenings they can really abuse you , most of them are capable of doing jobs or any kind of work but they choose to beg and get the easy money and its funny as the council allows them to do this , if they were old with any disability i would have symphaty with them but with normal people who can really go out there and work they just choose to beg and they are everywhere on queen street asking for spare change...just hate taking a walk down queen street in the evenings just because of them.

Hi. How is Queen Street at night? Are restaurants/cafes/shops open? Any 24/7 food outlets?

Hello,
Queens Street toward the pier is full of restaurants worth exploring.
Everything usually closes quite early in New Zealand. You will have to check out the times online.
I hope this helps.
