You can get there from various points on the main highway, Easy drive up the West Coast is rural with coastal views. Stop at the... More

it was a beautiful drive and we stopped at both Muriwai and Piha beaches. The road is really windy, and for Americans trying to keep left it was nerve-wracking - mostly for the passenger. ;)

I Have traveled all around New Zealand and this road was too long and not so nice. It was still fine, but There are better roads in this wonderful country!

The Highway was well signed and clearly made sure that you were well aware of what attractions for the tourists were coming.

We took 6 days to go north from Auckland to Cape Reinga via the East Cost and back via the West Coast. Coastal views, mountain scenes and native bush make this journey a must on any visitors plans. Take the Hokianga car ferry to shave two hours off the road journey to Rowene.

As a Wedding Celebrant, and I live on the Twin Coast Highway I know and see so many interesting places for a wedding, people from overseas contact me to arrange a Wedding Place. The cost is so small, but natures best I rate this area. The colours of the bush, flowers are magic, beaches are so clean all this makes... More

I assumed we would get a lot of stunning coastal views on this highway. We were disappointed. If you want views then you need to take "detours" which cost too much time and thus I cannot recommend these "experiments". Simply see it as a typical highway leading from A to B

Drove to the visitors center on our last day. We couldn't hike because it was raining and we didnt want to muddy our boots before packing but we continued down to Piha. Absolutely beautiful and a must when visiting Auckland
