walked there by foot. the mount is not very high, and the volcano is a small crater overgrown with grass. but the views of Auckland are stunning. you can see other green "hills" - sleeping volcanos, the center of the town and the Rangitoto island in the distance. it's nice to sit there for a while and enjoy the views

I read some reviews and thought I needed to see this in person. You can really get 360 degree views of the city of Auckland. You will need to walk up the summit to see the views but I think it is worth the effort. We went in the morning and there wasn't too many tourists around but its clear... More

Get the pulse going and take the walk to the top (ignoring the bus drivers warnings of heart attacks). At the top is the impressive volcanic crater and some impressive views over Auckland. We then went a little "off piste" and took a track that led us down to Eden Garden.

I took a train to Newmarket and did the 40 minute walk up from there. Some fabulous houses along Almora Rd, and keep an eye out for the 1860s castle turret as you walk along Glenfell Pl. An initial 106 stairs greet you before you get to the grassy top section of Mount Eden. A dirt track with more stairs... More

It's a bit of a hike but worth it for the view. Not great parking but can be found at the base. The views are great although the paths do need attention.

A bit of a hike, but well worth it for the views! Go up to the vantage point from one side and come down from the other, as we did!

There is a long way and a short way to get to the top. The long way takes you around the mountain at least a couple of times before you get to the top but the view is well worth it. We came down the short way which a bit steep in places so on balance we were pleased we... More

Fantastic 360 degree view of Auckland and the Mt. Eden crater. On a clear day you can see most of the highlights of the surrounding area. Well worth the hike.

its fascinating to see the crater. you're not allowed to step into it but yu can clearly see the huge crater of the extinct volcano and walk all around it. The view are absolutely stunning. Why pay money to go see the view from inside a tower? You are able to drive almost up to the very top.

Just went there last week and we're lucky enough to catch a awesome sunset view as the weather is good! We took the bus from Britomart and is about 25-30 minutes journey to there. You need about 20 minutes walk to Mt Eden from the bus stop.
