We were escorted around the island by motutapu staff, showing us how the island has restored. The nursery where seedlings are raised, which are then planted around the island, mostly done by volunteers. The outdoor education centre, catering for various groups, especially schools. so beautiful, surrounded by sea with historic gun placements, tunnels, a working farm, pest free, an education centre & the homestead! It's a trek but easily done! Bring food because there are no shops. Hard to believe the big smoke is just a ferry ride...More

Like stepping back in time to a place that is becoming again as the islands in the gulf were for previous generations. Exciting to hear and see different birds, in particular saddlebacks.
