Well worth a visit on a fine day. Many walking tracks and viewpoints over the inner harbour and the Rangitoto channel. Military tunnels and earthworks. Disappearing gun covering the harbour entrance. Parking half way up or nearby streets. I was amazed at the amount of...More

North Head is an old military installation, which incudes old guns, numerous tunnels & underground chambers that you can explore freely. Also has amazing 360 degree views from up top.

An exciting day for the family starts by catching the ferry over to Davenport from the city. Stroll though the shopping area before a nice walk up Mount Victoria for beautiful views combined with some history around the tunnels and gun emplacements on the mountain....More

This place impressed me for a different reason than most people write about: in a lot of countries, they'd clean up all the tunnels, put lights in, dress it up with fake soldiers and guns, and charge admission. Not here. It's free and left in...More

Sorry for the delay answering. It is a bit of a steep walk up, but there is car access. Beautiful views from the top so well worth the effort and time either way.
