Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens.

Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years.

Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination.

Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

Each time I have visited the Gardens there is something new and exciting. One type of garden leads into another themed garden. It is a must visit whenever we have visitors from out of town.

This is definitely a "must do" garden to see , for keen gardeners . We are members of the Royal Horticultural Gardens in England so love looking around gardens wherever we go. This garden is spectacular. It is divided into many themed gardens, from the cool coloured Japanese, to the vibrant colours of the Indian, each was a visual treat.... More

We had a fabulous time exploring all the different gardens, what an amazing job they have done with this place, everywhere you turn there's something different. This venue is free to go in to which really surprised me, i don't know where they get there funds for the upkeep of these gardens since it's free entry, but they have done... More

En route to Auckland, we stopped at Hamilton Gardens just looking for a place to have our picnic lunch. And what a pleasant surprise this was. Far too much to explore properly in the hour we had to spare, we concentrated on the six themed gardens: English, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, American contemporary and Mediterranean. Each was an excellent example of... More

The gardens are beautifully maintained and well themed in every section you visit. Entrance and parking is free of charge, and the gardens are easy to navigate. We spent a few hours here with young children (6 yrs and 18-months) and they were entertained the entire time. There are plenty of places to stop and sit or have a picnic... More

I visited on a sunny afternoon. There are many themed gardens, the vegetable and walled fruit gardens were my favourite although the Tudor garden was fun. This makes a good half-day visit for all the family, there's shade and seating if required.

Gorgeous replicas of beautiful gardens from around the world. Well-maintained, beautiful settings with stunning plants and flowers, it was so nice walking through each one and I'm looking forward to visiting again once the new gardens are ready.

We have travelled extensively and visited botanical gardens all over the globe, but can honestly say that this is the finest garden we have ever seen. The quality of the plantings and the beauty of the settings were a joy to behold.

Hamilton isn't much of a tourist trap, but the gardens are definitely worth taking the time to go and see. We just stopped to fill some time but it was well worth it.
