This is the second time we have done this trip, the day was overcast but the wind was up and we set sail. This is a fab day on the water and you can hoist the sails climb the rigging or sit back and just relax. The crew are friendly and experienced and on the off season the ship is... More

We chose to take the short evening cruise and it was a delight. Some of the friendly crew have come from the volunteer programme that the boat supports and it was great to hear their experiences. Even though this is only a two hour trip there was time for everyone who wanted to get involved to have a go at steering,... More

The whole experience is just fantastic! The crew and captain were really accommodating and helpful. They are happy to let you help with the sails and will patiently teach you how to do things. Or you can choose to sit back and enjoy the homemade scones and tea or coffee. You also get the chance to climb up the mast... More

"more rum, more rum, more rum for the pirates." but only if Captain Tim fine tunes his cunning plans. Tall ships race January 7th, and the whole day devoted to sailing in the stunning Bay of Islands, a new concept for the day, well received. Well worth the trip up from Levin. Thanks R Tucker Thompson and her crew.

So glad you enjoyed the race - it's been 10 years since we last joined the race and Captain Tim decided that it was about time we did it again! And all the crew cried "arghhhh!!" which seemed to mean yes. Hope you made it to the hangi afterwards! More

We booked as a family group with two children (boys aged 11 and 6) and we couldn't have asked for a better experience for cruising the beautiful Bay of Islands. You could help with raising and lowering the sails, steering, climbing the rigging (almost to the top of the main sail mast) or climb out onto the bowsprit at the... More

This is a relaxing way to see the beauty of The Bay of Islands. Ethan assisted me onto the ropes on the bow and assured me that I would be OK. I am not young. Thank you Ethan, it was a magic experience . The crew were all so pleasant and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this experience.Liz

Kia ora and thank you so much for your lovely review on TripAdvisor. I will pass your feedback on to Ethan who will be delighted with your comments. Ethan is one of sail trainees who volunteered with us over summer last year and this year is doing some volunteer and some paid work. He is a really nice young man! More

Took the day trip with two friends. Plenty of hands-on opportunities for those who want - from climbing the rigging to handling the helm - just as advertised. We had about half the number of passengers they can take, which made it especially comfortable. Capt. Tim and crew, Eloise, Ethan and Alex, made sure everyone got to do what they... More

Kia ora and thank you for taking the time to provide your review on TripAdvisor, and we are delighted that you enjoyed your day sail with us. It has taken a bit of time for the water to warm up this year so only a few hardy souls braved the water before Christmas. Kia ora! More

I have done the full day trip of the bay on the R Tucker years ago. It was a great day. This year I had done a full day sail on a smaller vessel, Ghunga 2, so the early evening sale was a bonus trip & a chance to thank my host. The wind tends to pick up in the... More

Thoroughly enjoy our day on the R. Tucker Thompson! It is a beautiful boat; the crew was super friendly and helpful; lunch was delicious.
