Lovely picturesque harbour

Lovely picturesque harbour with many seafood restaurants, small town with plenty of souvenir and, coffee shops, nice beach and walk along the harbour to the cruise ship.

A very beautiful place to visit. We went here as part of our cruise ship excursion, but would have liked more time here.

From the Harbour area we were able to catch the Ferry to the Hole in the Rock and also do a Salt Air helicopter ride to land on top of the hole in the rock. It was a busy place with places to get something to eat and buy things. Others in our group also took helicopter rides over the... More

Stunning views, and decent beach but when cruise ships come in it gets very busy and crowded as its where they are dropped off and where most tours pick up from. Also there is a helicopter taking off every half hour or so throughout the day which also makes it very noisy.

We loved Paihia with the outstanding view, great restaurants, outdoor activities and town square craft markets. It really is a town that has a lot going on.

A quick trip across to Russell, lots of history of early English Maori interactions. Stay in Paihia or Russell and trip from there, so much to see and do, and not expensive. Fantastic place to spend 3-4 days. Do the Hole in the Rock tour, stop at Russell, fishing charters, kayak tours... all there!!

The whole area of Paihia is very scenic and the harbour is right at the centre of the town. There are lots of shops and eating places all along the front and ferry trips to several destinations are available from the harbour. We visited Russell by ferry from the harbour and it made for a pleasant and inexpensive afternoon trip.
