The Whakarewarewa Forest is breathtaking. About six walking tracks that are free! There are mountain bike tracks, horse riding tracks and serous walker tracks. We had only a short time so spent the money and did the Redwoods Treewalk and would do it again. I felt I had a view like in a David Attenborough doco. Heaven. Even walking around... More

We enjoyed a trail and elevated boardwalk through the Redwood forest park. Visitors in the upcoming months will also be able to enjoy the lights being installed on the tree tops walk. Found it informative and that it targeted environmentally friendly concerns with the installations. Suitable for all age groups and most abilities.

It's a picturesque sight the moment you arrive. You will be surrounded by tall and almost symmetric trees. We did the 1 hour 30 minutes walk. While the forest was nice and quiet, it is a good place for a walk and hike but there was nothing else there that seemed exciting and the redwoods all looked the same after... More

1) Free 2) Historic 3) Range of walks for all experiences and levels... (we went with a 2 year old) 4) "historic" - when you consider the age of the trees 5) natural/nature what else did you want? 10 min from heart of rotorua... it is fantastic. Highly recommend if you have 1-2 hours spare.

minutes from downtown rotorua, you find yourself in a cathedral environment, surrounded by towering redwoods and large umbrella ferns. Your footsteps are muted from the bark and leaves, dust rising from a passing jogger or mother with a pram. A short walk revives the soul and a small but well stocked gift shop holds souvenirs and small works of art

When doing a trip through Rotorua the last thing I expected to find was a beautiful Redwood forest. This forest consists of many walks both long and short but we only had time to do the short walk and the amazing tree walk among the Redwoods. When you go to Rotorua you expect to see boiling mud and geysers but... More
