We had a night in New Plymouth. Well worth the drive around the coast. The islands are great for photos.

Did not walk to the top as it looked a bit challenging in bad weather. Great views around the area and Paritutu Rock is very impressive

Walked most of the way up, didn’t feel safe to hold on to the chains for the last part of the walk. The view was spectacular

Drove up to the Rock carpark through the uninspiring industrial locale on a stormy weekend morning. Watched fit young tourists jump out of their campervans and race up to the rock summit, while the wind blew my hat off. Great natural beauty even with force...More

Its a really good climb there is a few spots that are a little hard with no steps but the chains are helpful. You get amazing views and feel a great achievement when you reach the top. Not ideal on a wet day.

A challenging walk/climb up Paritutu Rock, not for the faint-hearted but even this fat old lady could do it. Took 12 minutes going up and after a rest and a very quick admire of the scenery (wary of lingering too long in case I chickened...More

If you go to the high spot and look out to the Islands at bird roosting time you will be amazed at the starlings roosting - thousands of them!
