Being there you get a very live picture of New Zealand's history. Perfect environment, interesting architecture but the "do not miss" spot is the Gallipoli battle sector. If you are history lover and you want to know about this battle and generaly about 1st World War living conditions, do not miss it. It is outstanding.

This is an absolutely amazing museum. You could spend all day here. Of particular note is the Gallipolli exhibition. It is stunning and so very moving. A visit to this museum is a must for anyone travelling to Wellington.

I had high expectations and I must admit to be a little disappointed. I wanted a bigger over arching story about Maori NZ. More was needed to tell the bigger picture. Lots of small, interesting exhibits but I didn't feel it told the whole story.

No charge to get in and also no charge to store coats & bags, so we felt pretty good about this place from the start. Offers a fascinating insight into the real New Zealand. We took the guide tour for $15 per head and that was a great introduction to the varied and fascinating exhibits on display here. Guide was... More

This is another must-do visit when you are in Wellington. The museum has various displays on at any time, though the word ''displays" does not do it justice. Particularly impressive on our visit were the sections on Earthquakes, Gallipoli and a colossal squid. Many of the displays are interactive experiences and it's all free - relying on voluntary donations- so... More

Tough to find anything to complain about at this outstanding free museum. The exhibits are awesome and good for all ages. Staff is not only friendly but knowledgeable. Even the cafe was good. Free wifi is an excellent bonus. Good place to spend the day with the family and the location on the wharf gives you an added option.
