I never have a bad time when I go to Staglands, it's fun for the whole family. Just a couple of things though; each time I've visited with my family, there is a sign saying don't feed the Clydesdale horse. Maybe you guys could have some fruit/veges available to give him instead like some apples and carrots. And the other... More

Lovely place for our family to explore. Nicely laid out. Both times we went had trouble finding a parking place as very popular..We loved feeding all the different animals although some were a bit indifferent as they must get a bit fed up with the same pellets that you buy for them. Great experience.

This wildlife reserve is so lovely. It's fun for the whole family. I love nature, and animals, so this place really ticks all the boxes for me. The animals all look well cared for. It's got quite a free-range feel to the reserve, for most animals, which is nice. You can really get up close and personal. The place feels... More

We live in Wellington but only visit every 2 or so years as the park is positioned on a very windy long drive up into the hills north of Upper Hutt..it really is worth the trip though as Staglands is wonderful for adults and children .Our 5 and 7 yr olds loved the hands on ,adventure experience with winding paths... Thanks for taking the time to write your 5* review. Hand feeding our birds and animals offers visitors the unique opportunity to connect with nature. Please note, if preferred, we are very happy for visitors to bring bread, apples or carrots from home to share with the animals, rather than purchase Animal and bird food bags. We hope to see... An amazing place for whole family, back to nature. Easy to get around with a toddler, but observed all ages from babies to the elderly enjoying themselves. Well worth the trip on a narrow road.

After a really long windy drive up the valley, we spent 3.5 hours at Staglands on an overcast windy day. The park is sheltered in most parts and a visit wouldn't be too weather dependent if you pack a raincoat. The Bad: we started in the Staglands cafe for a quick lunch. The staff were quick to offer a vegetarian... More

Great opportunity to get outdoors with your children and grandchildren. The Reserve has a great layout and the animals appear to be well cared for and maintained. I was surprised with how open the layout is and how the kids can interact with the animals. The Reserve is also very clean and the cafe is reasonable priced. Worth the entrance... More

I have been visiting this place since I was a kid - a LONG time ago! The access road can be a little hairy with sharp blind corners but once you are there the birds, animals and setting make for an entertaining day out with the kids. Take a picnic to enjoy by the river!

My 15 year old daughter and I visited with our local family who were also regular visitors to the Reserve with their young boys of 10 and 12, and who despite regular visits also hugely enjoyed the day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving the whole day a relaxed demeanour as we patted and fed the animals, ventured... More
