I came here with a boat tour. The weather was so nice and clear. I could see Mt Cook very clearly. The problem was the glacier. It was covered by dirt so it was basically black and gray. Not blue and emerald.

Went with Glacier Explorers hiked to glacier, not too bad. Boats to get up close to glacier and ice "bergs" in the water spectacular. Must see. You can hike to the glacier also but this trip was amazing, were on the lake for an hour....More

A short drive from Mt Cook and plenty of parking available. The walk to the glacier is short but not too difficult as the DOC has done a great job in installing the steps. Incredible views all around!

Must see if you're already at the Mt. Cook area. Use suitable shoes. Going up the prepared steps may be challenging for some - my iphone showed we had gone up 27 floors :). You can stop along the way up to catch your breath,...More

If you're short on time, be sure to go up to the view point here as it'll only take you 20 minutes up and you get a really nice view of the glacier lake in all it's blue glory!

It is a 3 hr 15 min drive from Queenstown. You have to watch up for a small sign on the right just before you reach a T-junction (one of which road goes to the Hermitage Hotel). The sign says Glacier walk/ lake. From the...More

The hike was only slightly challenging, basically just taking lots of stairs and within 10 minutes or so you'll make it to the top. Beautiful nonetheless but I am not sure if it's because of global warming but there wasn't many glaciers, only some at...More

This glacier is only a 20 minutes walk up a 100 m tall climb of stairs. The climb is hard, but it is all stairs and I saw a bus full of 50-60 year old tourists climbing to the top no problem. At the top...More

My husband and I did the heli-hike trip. We were joined by another couple to fill the aircraft. The tour operator provided plenty of outerwear although we brought our own. They also set us up with crampons and poles, backpacks and safety belts. Each trip...More
