We popped into Hunter Wine for a tasting at about 3.20pm knowing they close at 4.00pm.
We were greeted in a most friendly way and invited out to the garden to sit and enjoy the surroundings and a tasting. The lady taking care of us (and please accept our apologies for not remembering your name) was a delight, so friendly, knowledgeable and informative. We were so impressed with her.
There is a great variety of wines to taste and whilst we were not necessarily looking to buy we ended up purchasing 12 bottles of different types. They even arrange shipping for only $8.
This is an unpretentious winery clearly operated with love and we highly recommend a visit.

We arrived on Wednesday, 16 November around mid-morning. We didn't see the black on black sign saying that the cellar was closed. We entered the building and the staff were so rude. Apparently the cellar and restaurant were closed for a private function. We were treated as persona non grata. They reluctantly sold me a bottle of Riesling after I explained it was a gift for a friend and we wouldn't be able to return as it was the last day of our trip. Disappointed and definitely won't recommend.

We had a great experience stopping in at Hunters for a wine tasting on our wine tour on bikes! The tasting was really good value for money, getting to try 8 different wines. We were served by a really lovely lady, who was so friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. We were sat in a lovely garden
Went home with a bottle of the delicious Reisling

We were lucky Jane Hunter was there and provided some guidance to our group:-). We (a largish group) were seated inside) Invoiced the also lovely outdoor setting.

All wines were rather interesting. Generous wine tour samples provided. And great story telling to describe each wine.

Nice location, people and interesting wines.

Whilst right on the "main" road it was a peaceful place in a lovely building. Great setting and knowledgeable staff who were engaging and insightful about not only the wines but the history. The wines was delicious, so much so it made a dent in the bank account!

Found the Hunter's Wines Cellar driving along the road. What a wonderful find! Really relaxed atmosphere, sat in a lovely garden with knowledable staff conducting the tasting. Wine was great and we look forward to drinking what we purchased on the remainder of our NZ adventure.

Great Kiwi welcome. Helen looked after us extremely well despite being rushed off her feet as other colleagues were attending Blenheim wine fair. Very knowledgeable with lots of anecdotes. Amazing to learn that the wine business here was started by a chap from Belfast!

We were here as part of a small group day trip visiting 5 wineries. All were very good, but in our opinion the overall quality of the wines at Hunter's were the best on the day. Apart from the pleasure of tasting the wines, the tasting was done in an idyllic location, and the service of the staff was both personal and professional. Highly recommended.

Our intent was to share a tasting and then buy a bottle to enjoy a glass of our favorite of the 5, with a meat and cheese board. We were quickly settled at a table on the lawn and enjoyed our first wine. Then we waited and waited. Our meat and cheese board was delivered and we waited and waited. After 45 minutes or so, we gave in and ate. Eventually we had all 5 wines to taste, took well over an hour, one apology along the way. We never bothered to order a bottle and left somewhat disappointed in the experience.

Hi there. Thank you for your review. We are very sorry that you felt a little abandoned in the garden. We like to promote a relaxed experience and so we space out the tastings somewhat. We hope you still enjoyed the wines and food and hope that you come back to us in the future so we can showcase our customer service as it is regularly.

Stopped in by chance as we drove by and boy were we pleased we did! Sophie lead us through our tastings and did a great job. She was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the wines. It was our first winery of the day (and our favorite).
Enjoying our wines as we travel the South Island - don’t know how many we’ll need to worry about taking home.
