After 50 years of reading books and viewing photos and videos of Molesworth, we finally got there! And it was ... perfect! Firstly, the weather was optimal for us - clear blue sky, little wind and warm (21C) and you cant help but marvel at...More

Has always been on my bucket list so decided to spend the weekend doing it. Great to travel and saw normal cars and a motor home doing the trip. I would imagine it would be a bit harder if the rivers were higher. Take the...More

Driving through the Molesworth gives you a feeling for the vastness of the landscape and the harsh conditions that must have faced the early farmers on this magnificent property. It feels magestic!

We started our trip in Hanmer Springs. The road through Molesworth station is only open in the summer. It is remote and you need to be able to help yourself if you get stuck. The road goes through beautiful country with vast views of mountains...More

We came from Blenheim and the drive in seemed to take an age to get to the Awatere valley and then Molesworth Station but it was well worth the effort. The scenery is unique and the driving quite easy. From their lunch in Hanmer Springs...More

Beautiful, stark and remote valleys in an isolated part of New Zealand frequented by relatively few. An AWD or 4WD vehicle with good ground clearance and caution when proceeding around corners is wise. Worth a look if you are self - reliant and have a...More

Approaching from Hanmer would be good. The roads are signposted but make sure your vehicle has a high road clearance, lack of overhangs (U shaped entrance / exits to rivers) and plenty of fuel in the tank before you go... More
