We arrived by bus from the Bus Interchange, which meant there was a bit of a queue to get on the Gondola car. But that's a minor thing, because once at the top there are hours of entertainment. The hiking trails around the top station are sometimes quite steep & exposed, so you need proper shoes, and windproof clothing. But the views are spectacular. There is a decent cafe, and the inevitable souvenir shop.

I took this side trip from Christchurch. From the tram station, you will need to get there. The # 8 bus takes you there, or you can get a tour bus that leaves on the hour, the latter being more expensive. If you buy a Tram / gondola combo, it's cheaper. Good ride up - well worth the pictures, seen below.

The Gondala ride up is great and the views from the top greater. There are many walks around this place too and the trampers would love doing those walks. The scenery is stunning from the top. There is a café at the top incase you feel hungry/thirsty. Highly recommend this place.

I absolutely suggest to everybody to go to visit this amazing attraction in Christchurch. Beautiful way to reach top of mountain with an amazing view of entire bay. Luckily we had a really sunny and hot day,with a beautiful blue sky. Upstairs is amazing. Absolutely stunning.

Of course, the views from the gondola and top of hill were beautiful! There is a small restaurant at the top but didn't stay as it was very busy. Very nice gift shop at top as well. Not really worth the travel time unless you plan to eat at the top or hike around.

We arrived soon after opening and were able to purchase tickets easily and quickly. The gondola ride itself was a huge hit with our one year old who enjoyed spying the ocean, sheep and other gondolas. Us adults loved the view at the top of the mountain, particularly the sparkling blue water on the Lyttelton side. The cafe/restaurant at the top had plenty of options and the staff were able to assist with our allergen questions. The staff were also friendly and accommodating. We suggest arriving early. When we got to the bottom at approximately 11am, the line was snaked out the door with buses of people continuing to arrive regularly.

Eight of us attended today. Although it’s not a long trip, only a kilometre in length, the views from the observation deck at the top were fantastic: especially over the port area. There’s a cafe and gift shop at the top too.

Gondola ride to the summit was great. Very well organized and we were lucky that there was hardly any waiting time. Views from the summit were amazing. There is also a nice Gift shop and cafe at the summit. Only warning - be careful to chose a non windy day to go up.

We are travelling around the world two months in. We are staying in Christchurch for a few days so wanted to cram as much in as possible including spending a few hours here. We visited their other attraction yesterday the tram that takes you around the city showing you places of interest etc. The cable car up to the top was magnificent with breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The staff were amazing too both at the kiosk and on the cable car. We would walked a couple of the paths too which gave us even more views of the surrounding area.

Friends and I took gondala ride in to top on very sunny autumn afternoon. Was fab experience and views are outstanding. The cafe and visitors centre is cool with a short visitor experience in the ground floor. Bit of a wait but cute ride.. We walked back down one of the steep trails to Lyttleton had a beer and caught No 8 bus back to car park.. very nice way to spend afternoon. One annoyance was lack of signage and directions on trails from visitor center.
