Starting with ferry ride where dolphins can sometimes be spotted this is a gentle half day out. Steep climb up the hill may be tiring for toddlers but you do get to wander a quiet scenic area. Not too much going on in this commuter suburb so a quiet time wandering is the norm.

Great place to explore if you're fit! Lots of walking up hills, but charming and stunning scenery, family and pet friendly, coastal walks, cafe's, close to Mt Herbert and Puru bay. Ferry drivers very friendly, great place for water activities.

In case you are visiting Gondola, you should also consider going to Lyttelton harbour (you need to go across a tunnel road from Gondola stop) and from Lyttelton, take a ferry to Diamond Harbour. You will love the ferry ride with scenic views of the sea and the hills.

Had a great morning at Diamond Harbour, such a stunning place to visit. We had lunch at Preserved Cook School & Eatery and the cabinet food looked delicious. Unfortunately, our choices all lacked flavour. Even the lovely looking Blueberry and cream cake and fresh muffins really lacked any flavour. Maybe ordering from the menu would have been more successful. It... More

It’s a lovely drive over to Diamond Harbour from the city. We chose to drive over Dyers Pass but you can also access via the Lyttelton Tunnel or take a ferry across from Lyttelton itself. Gorgeous views in every direction and a good spot to sit and watch all the watercraft coming and going. It was warm and sunny on... More

A beautiful place to visit in the sun. The views are amazing and the sea is warm enough for swimming in from November - March. Stunning scenery, must visit.

Take the ferry across, on a nice day, views and peaceful walks. Visit the shop beside the old cottage and sports ground. They have keys for the old cottage.

Took the Diamond Harbour launch across with granddaughter, walked up to the shops for a coffee for me and an ice cream for her, Superb views of Lyttelton harbour and port, walked back down to small beach then back on launch to Lyttelton. Great adventure.

We had a wonderful day walking over the Bridle Path to Lyttelton, then down to the docks and over to Diamond Harbour on the ferry. I got Treatme deals of $13 each for return ferry and $10 to spend at Preserved Eatery. Too crowded at the cafe, but still a lovely treat. The ferry was on time and professionally run.... More
