Talking to locals they think it’s a bit of an eye sore to look at. It’s ok at night when you drive past to look at but not spectacular

We passed this sculpture on the way into Christchurch. It is a big piece and difficult to tell what it is. I’m assuming that with it all lit up it looks better.

A real testimony to the generosity of a massive team. Firstly thanks to Sydney for gifting it back to the home city of the artist, secondly thanks to all those who donated so selflessly to its redesign, refurbishment and erection right at the northern road...More

Giant cylindrical sculpture covered in mini windmills. Looks good at night when lit by coloured lights. Watchout for it on your left just as you approach the Waimakariri River bridge on motorway as you approach Christchurch. During the day rather underwhelming. Originally commisioned and hung...More

The multiple, wind-driven fans provide interest in the daytime whilst the changing colours , reflected off the rotating blades are even more spectacular at night.

Quite an impressive artwork - given to Christchurch by Sydney (After being displayed on Sydney Harbour Bridge on NYE 2005). Prominently displayed on the main motorway going North of Christchurch, between Belfast and the Waimak river.

Let's be honest, I'm not a 'fan'! Perhaps if I was it would receive a warmer welcome. It just seems to be a bunch of scrape metal left on the side of the motorway. If it was windy more often it might look/work better. Instead...More

You can see this when you're going towards kaiapoi from Christchurch. To be honest, it is really big. And that's about it really. Go back in your car and continue your travel.
