Overview
More
The Otago Peninsula is a long, hilly indented finger of land that forms the easternmost part of Dunedin, New Zealand. Volcanic in origin, it forms one wall of the eroded valley that now forms Otago Harbour. The peninsula lies south-east of Otago Harbour and runs parallel to the mainland for 20 km, with a maximum width of 9 km. It is joined to the mainland at the south-west end by a narrow isthmus about 1.5 km wide.

The Otago Peninsula, stretching along the southern edge of the Otago harbour is an easy drive from central Dunedin. A wonderfully scenic trip will see you passing lush green pastures, small bays and inlets, sandy beaches, hills and volcanic landforms. So near to a major...More

Otago peninsula is a wonderful place to visit. It is a heaven for the wild animals. I saw albatros, penguins, sea lions and seals here with a tour. The drive itself is very scenic as well. Cliff and beach are magnificent as well.

We were staying in Dunedin for a month and found we could get to tracks on the peninsula in 15-25 minutes. Lots of great hiking and views. Nothing too strenuous but beaches with sea lions (scary but awesome from a distance) and other wildlife. Great...More

We rented a car and drove around the peninsula for the day. It was absolutely breathtaking and there were a lot of great stops along the way. You should make sure you are comfortable driving narrow and curvy streets because you do drive right along...More

What an awesome place to go and experience. The drive is great and when we went it was pretty hairy with roadworks - which added to the adventure. Along the way you see great country side rolling into the sea, along with great little coastal...More

Thoroughly enjoyed our tiki tour from Port Clamers out to the mole at historical Aramoana. Back around and then up to Tairoa Heads. Really interesting and historical places, with lots of wildlife A must-do for all visitors to the Dunedin area

The peninsula has so much to offer that it requires time... a full day at least... impossible to highlight everything, so maybe a special mention for ‘Okia Flat Reserve’ - possibly off-the-beaten track - 2 hills which will remind you of Egyptian pyramids. A very...More

On a blue skied day it doesn't get much better than this. A beautiful round drive around the picturesque bays out to the Albatross Colony Centre, which has free access unless you choose for an expensive guided tour, and then back via the high road(...More

Driving out along the peninsula was a highlight. Scenery was stunning (where isn’t in NZ). We saw lots of birds along the way, and seal colonies. Stand out was the free look-out point (by the albatross centre- which you have to pay for), to see...More

One day is enough in Dunedin we only stayed on route to Christchurch. The penguins only come ashore in the evening and I think you have to do the tour to see them.
