The Homer Tunnel is really well operated, with big signs with the wait time at each end of the tunnel.
Kea's often hang around here, so was a good chance to get a few pictures of the bird while waiting to go through.
Granted, that there are tunnels in the US and bridges and all of that, but this is kind of unique. A single-lane tunnel that gets you from one side of the mountains to the other. It's dimly lit and you have to take turns via...More
The tunnel is in between Te Anau and Milford Sound. Because of only 1 lane of driving was allowed that people should take some time to wait for switch the lane. As a result, it could be a good opportunity to take photos.

All you do is drive thru to get...More

We had a camper van that only just fitted through the tunnel - take care to stay n the middle. Watch carefully as you drive through - look at the rock face that men hacked at for years to create a road through. This is...More
Yes the traffic lights work all year round 365 days regardless of the weather. great trip to do to get to Milford sound. The lights allow one way traffic through the tunnel, usually have a twenty minute wait either side.
