We had the lake to ourselves in late August.Just us and the stunning reflections. A must for photographers, and less than 30 mins from town.

Lovely drive through the countryside between Queenstown & Glenorchy. We had a 4WD but we noticed a lot of people in normal cars doing this drive. Moke Lake & camping ground looked beautiful.

I had seen some pictures so thought we would go on a day off from skiing. Very close to Queenstown down the road to Glenorchy. The road starts out sealed and then turns to gravel, but is an easy drive. Drive down to the campsite...More

One of the very few must go spots for a true sense of relaxation and nature connection! Absolutely a must go if you are in Queenstown, just remember to probably get a rental to go there because is a bit far!

What a beautiful spot surrounded by mountains. When we were there there were people swimming and wind boarding. Lots of people camping. Next time im going to stay

Great hiking, we walk from wakatipu lake (glenorchy road) and it took 2hours with many photo stops. Sign show 3 to 4 hours, but this is over estimated. We did in winter: color are wonderful and we were alone on the track and around the...More

Visting Moke Lake was serenity and tranquility mixed into one. No sounds besides the random cars that may or may not come down the road. Amazing, breathtaking scenery that needs to seen for yourself along with walking tracks that would be great I imagine. The...More

What a beautiful place to camp! Running water and long-drop loos comprise the facilities, but what a location! Track is a bit rocky and we were a little nervous about our tyres but they were fine in the end and it was more than worth...More

One of the things I was really hoping to see while in NZ was Kea birds. They are alpine parrots. We didn't see any in Franz Josef, Fox Glacier, or Milford Sound but we were thrilled to spot them at Moke Lake. We absolutely did...More

Depends on the weather. Last night we had heavy rain so probably not because road will be muddy. And in winter road has ice. But in the middle of dry weather you will probably be able to get through. Note road is very... More

For the majority of the year a normal sedan will be fine. Don't drive it during the winter if there is snow & ice without having snow chains. Enjoy the drive up to the lake as much as the lake it's self.
