If you are looking for a quite and chilled out place to relax I would highly recommend Moke Lake, it's only 20 minutes out of Queenstown but you feel like your in the middle of no where. When its a good day the Lake mirrors the Mountains perfectly. It's such a beautiful place.

Well worth taking a bit of a drive to come see Moke Lake. There is a circuit walk around the lake, so you can take it in. I would recommend going on a very still morning or evening, when the water is glassy flat.

Take a 20 minute or so ride out to the Moke lake. Needs an all wheel drive car on bad weather because its at the end of an unsealed road. Once there you are definitely away from the rat race. Parking available at the end of the road which is also the start of a loop walk around the lake.... More

We did a ride out from Queenstown upto and around the lake, it is very beautiful and was a great ride. We had a perfect day for it. Great photography opportunities on a still day.

Moke Lake is a short drive from Queenstown but you quickly leave the town behind and feel like you are miles from civilisation. There are two good walks here, a short pleasant stroll around the lake or it is the start of the back way to either Arthurs Point (4-5 hours away) or up over the ridge and down into... More

One of our favorite things we did in Queenstown. Short drive from downtown Queenstown but feels completely out of town - gravel roads, lots of scenery, and very few people (at least when we went). Short (2 hours of so) hike up the hills and around the lake, with sheep and cows roaming freely around the area.

This is a lovely drive up through steep high-country farmland to a wee lake far from the crowded tourist areas.

Drove here just to check it out, really awesome sport, dead quiet and amazing views. Beware of the sand flies they are pretty aggressive! Good for camping, fishing, kayaking....etc. Ideally have a 4wd but not essential if its dry
