Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a wonderful half-day day hike. It's very easy and not much up and down. There are plenty of people on the trail but not crowded. I only went as far as the Monturau hut and then down to Shallow Bay, where I was completely alone. The part I walked was mostly forest with lots of shade a quiet and beautiful things to see.

A classic trail run (or walk) from the Control Gates in Te Anau and return. I continued up to Mt Luxmore summit and strongly recommended this for the amazing views.

This hut was so clean and well maintained. It is huge and can accommodate the amount of visitors it gathers. Would definitely recommend a stop off at this hut if you're on the Kepler Trail.

If you have an extra day in Te Anau and you like to hike, this hike is a definite must do! It will take a whole day but if you leave early then you will be back in Te Anau for dinner. Once you've reached the hut you get beautiful views up lake Te Anau, down to the township and up one of the arms of the lake.

My wife and I did part of the Kepler Track up to the Luxmore Hut and then back for a full day trek. He had lunch at the Luxmore Hut that was very nice, clean and well maintained. This hut can accommodate up to 54 people per night and it is definitely quite popular. Highly recommend you book ahead of time if you want to stay overnight. You can also enjoy the Luxmore caves that are a few hundred meters away from the hut.

First part of the Kepler Track. Flat walk all the way along the waterfront until you climb up through the bush to the hut. When you come out of the bush line you do not have far to Luxmore hut. There are caves close to the hut.

Took a Southern Lakes Helicopters scenic flight & got dropped off at the hut helipad, along with another couple. They continued further up to explore. We checked out the huts amenities (flush toilets with t.paper) and started down.
Boardwalk across the grassland with views of Middle Sound across to the Murchison Mountains and over the lake to the land mass beyond Te Anau. Then, past the Big Rocks and winding down through the ferns & forest on a good gravelled track. Not a lot to see once you're into forest, but it was shady on a sunny day, there were birds and a natural calmness to it all.
Could hear the lapping lake just before arriving at the flat beginnings of the Brod Bay section. The Shelter (+ toilets & water tap) are just 50m along . Took us 2 1/2hr to get down. Could easily be done quicker. Hiking sticks were a plus.
Nice tree lined sandy shore to await the Water Taxi (pre-arranged by Southern Lakes Helicopters), or you continue along Brod Bay to reach the car park at the Contol Gates.
