Visited during a trip my family took around the south island last December, and it really was breathtaking. We had a rainy day that turned sunny as we arrived, allowing us to see the waterfalls at their best plus the fjords in sunlight. We got some seals too, which was awesome. The boat trip takes about 90 minutes, and it's... More

We went on the trip from Queenstown with Real Journeys. The driver - Brian was great and gave us an informative commentary on the way, with humour and in depth knowledge of the area. It is a four hour trip from Queenstown. We stopped in Te Anau for morning tea. There were photo stops along the way to Milford Sound.... More

Milford Sound is spectacular in every sense. The drive to the Sound is part of the experience, two hours of glorious mountain scenery. The Sound itself should be part of everyone's New Zealand itinerary. We did a boat trip with Go Orange which we would highly recommend as great value and visited all the main sights. The Sound is beautiful... More

So maybe I was a bit naïve as I have since found out it rains 300 days of the year in Milford Sound....but when we went in Jan 2017 the weather was terrible - rainy and very low cloud. Yes we got to see numerous waterfalls and they were fantastic but it meant that we did not get to see... More

I know people recommended Doubtful sound but do not disregard Milford sound quite yet. It is the most magnificent thing I have ever seen, with the drive to the sound as spectacular if not more beautiful then the cruise on the sound itself. Absolutely spectacular views, and whatever money you pay for the cruise, is absolutely worth it. Highly recommend... More

Milford Sound is absolutely beautiful and a must-see when you're in this neck of the woods. The drive itself to Milford Sound is really enjoyable, with great scenery en-route. I would recommend stopping off at The Chasm, which is about 5 minutes before you reach the Milford visitor centre. We did a cruise and kayaking tour of the Sound with... More

Went on the 0845 cruise with Mitre Peak. It was pouring rain the whole day and didn't get to see the mountain tops but the rain enhanced the natural beauty of the place and made the cruise more exciting. Lots of waterfalls and we got to see fur seals and a dolphin. Guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out some... More

It starts with the drive up to Homer Tunnel and the drive through the mountain (was like going down a mineshaft) popped out other side and wow beautiful drive into Milford. Take a cruse and if you are in no rush afternoon crises are cheaper than morning and midday. A must see for a trip to New Zealand.

A must-do especially if you do not have enough time to do 'Doubtful sounds' that might take some more time!! But only to drive to Milford is worth the time and effort!! It is like a fairy-tale!! Although it is some tourists in this area you forget about it because of all the beauty!!! It is wonderful a sunny day... More

A 2 hr drive from Te Anau. Crowded with tourist from all over the world. We took a trip on the Southern Discovery biat. Entertaining commentary on board. The skipper was skilful in manouvering the boat at the river mouth. Was windy, wet and was very cold so go prepared especially if you have young kids. We paid for a... More
