Milford Sound must be one of the great scenic locations of the world. The drive in and out, which can take up to two hours in peak periods was an experience in itself with breath taking scenery and moments of wonderment (how did they dig...More
Quite the drive to get here from Queenstown, and the drive is pretty awesome itself! The line this time at the tunnel was not as long as I remember from back in 2007.
The cruise is about 1-2 hours I recall. That seems long but...More
Half of the wonder is the drive up. Stay in Te Anau so you can afford yourself a whole day and hike around the trails. Bring warm clothes and food for lunch as there aren’t any options other than the food on the boats. Leave...More
It was a long ride to Milford Sound but we are being entertained with commentary from our experience driver.

Stay at Te Anau and find one of the day tours to Milford Sound is the best option. Every one want to stay at Milford Sound, so it's about $500 per night there and always fully booked. Or hire a car, pack up sleeping bags and tent, drive there and stay in the camping site ($30 per night per adult), if it's not winter. That'll be more flexible, you can have several days to explore the place, if you like.
