The beautiful sunshine and cloudless sky over Milford Sound made for great photos of the Mitre Peak, spectacular Bowen Falls and the unique rock face vegetation. Milford Sound is in the World Heritage listed Fiordland National Park and is described as the ‘Eighth Natural Wonder...More

The steep cliffs that line this fjord are spectacular. Despite being called a sound this coastal inlet as not formed by running water [a sound] but by glacial erosion so strictly speaking is a fjord. The hanging valleys and striations caused by the glacial ice...More

Guess we were unlucky to have gone to Milford on a rainy day! We took the Jucy cruise, it was lil crowded but was nice. The view would have been breathtaking If it was a better weather. Seal viewing was good. As we stayed in...More

It is a beautiful drive to Milford Sound. Be sure to stop along the way to take photos. Mirror Lake is awesome!! The road is very winding so allow plenty of time to get there and back. There also can be a chance of an...More

I do recommend to visit both Doubtful and Milford sound. If you have time, it is worth to stay overnight on the cruise. You can feel different time of the day. Book 3 to 4 months in advance during peak season if you can. Otherwise,...More

Traveling with a one year old toddler, we were at first reluctant to do a long drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound. As it was nearing the end of our seven-day stay, we bit the bullet and off we went in a rental car. We...More

Boat trip on the Sound was lovely, even tho it rained. The waterfalls were pouring like crazy because of the rain. We saw cute penguins on the trip. But there’s not much to do on shore here- maybe a restaurant and s hotel. The drive...More

If you are staying at Te Anau and milford sound, then my suggestion will be to take your time and relax at Te Anau. So many things to do there. Glowworm Cave, Jet Ride, Kepler Track, Cinema, etc.....No need to take a cruise... More

We stayed in Te Anau and went to the glow worm caves before going to Milford Sound, both well worth it - definitely don’t want to try it in one day. Driving up on your own is great since you can stop where you want!

The trip to Milford Sound is over 4 hours drive from Queenstown. There are many cafes en-route that offer vegan food. I would try one of the many cafes at Te Anau as its just over 2 hours drive from Milford and on the way.
