Visit the Te Anau Glowworm Caves - an underground network of limestone caves lit by hundreds of glowworms. In the darkness they produce a glittering display. Carved out by the force of the river, the underground world is surprisingly beautiful with whirlpools and roaring waterfalls. Begin with a scenic cruise across Lake Te Anau and then our nature guides will take you in groups through the caves and then in a small boat into the grotto. Departs Te Anau.

Went on the evening trip to the caves and had a very good time, booking went very easy and smooth. The boat that took us there was quite modern and roomy, guides were knowledgeable and helpful. The attraction itself is definitely worth a visit if you have a free evening (also if you don't) and comes highly recommended

This tour takes a short boat ride on Lake Te Anau to the Glowworm grotto where visitors disembark and are taken on a small boat right into the Glowworm grotto. It is a spellbinding experience to go into a totally dark cave and watch the lights of the glowworms twinkle in the caves surrounding your boat. This is a remarkable... More

Went to the cave not knowing what to expect, and found out so much. The trip to the caves was great, very smooth on a clean and tidy catamaran. When we arrived we had a very informative talk, a cup of coffee (free!!!!) and then taken into the caves. Very very special. So quiet apart for the rushing water. You... More

The boat ride across the lake was nice and lasted around half an hour. It was crowded when we got off the boat but we were divided into smaller groups for the cave tour. The underground river and the glow worms were stunning. It really was like the night sky. Zara gave us good information about the cave and the... More

We took an evening trip to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves and were treated to the most magnificent sunset we have ever seen en route to the caves. The boat journey is short and comfortable and we were met on our arrival at the caves by very friendly staff. We were taken on a very informative walk through the caves... More

We went on this visit with Real Journeys. The boat goes from the middle of Te Anau the Real Journeys information centre. Firstly there is a trip on the lake to the caves with some very interesting background on the discovery of the caves. On arrival there is a short talk about what to expect in the caves. There is... I would recommend spending more time on the Millford and doubtful sound...the cave are a nice 2.5 hours attraction, but lots of travelling time, for a short visit to the cave, still a curiosity if you have time !

Glowworms are native to NZ and Australia and glow brightly in this cave. But the roaring water is also amazing in this very well run trip across Lake Te Anau. Well worth it!

This was an OK experience, and we felt overpriced for what you experience. The ride over on the lake the captain even said "you drew the "short straw" as I don't normally give the commentary. Once there we were divided into smaller groups and instead of getting an overview of what we would see in the caves the tour leader... More
