Opposite where we were staying in The Shamrock stands a well made bronze statue of George Lansell (born 1823 - died 1906). Probably not worth visiting in its own right but worth a read of his history when passing to the Bendigo Visitors Centre or...More

Much of the colonial history is about celebrating the achievements of rich old white men. A kind of mutual back-slapping at how they made their money. It is a well made statue in a pleasant locale.

A man of indominable spirit. Every town needs its heroes and also needs to both remember them and commemorate them and that is what Bendigo does with this statue. Worth a look

This very well located statue is set off well by the surrounding gardens in a major thoroughfare and the centre of the city.

Just a statue. We only saw it because we were in the area. Unless you're interested in the history of the man, it is just a statue.
