Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

take a gentle walk down to top of falls and if you are moderately fit take the steps down to waterfall base. No swimming allowed (although a few people did disobey sign and go in on the hot day we were there & many took their shoes off and cooled hot feet.) Grampians crazy busy on weekends and school holidays so avoid where possible. Monday after people left - you can enjoy peaceful walks. Lot of walks, well sign posted and good maps from visitors centre - which is a must see. Roamed around and found a paddock in Halls gap that had 50 Kangaroos, several wild goats and several wild emus. Plenty of Kangaroos in the centre of town if you can't walk 500m to wild paddock area.

We visited the Falls Lookout which was an accessible walk, easier than hiking down the 260 steps. Great views of the falls and very serene and peaceful. Highly recommend visiting on a weekday to avoid crowds.

This walk was one of the highlights of our visit to the Grampians. We are 2 moderately fit 70 year olds (but not hikers) and the walk guaranteed great views of the river wth some rock walking. Fish falls is on the way if you start at Zumsteins and the Falls are a fabulous spot to stop and picnic with no company. Hardly anyone was walking the track but when we got to MacKenzie Falls the crowds appeared. It was a moderate walk but we enjoyed it immensely, Just one tip - we had difficulty finding the start of the walk at Zumsteins - the end of the car park which has the historic Zumsteins house said the MacKenzie Falls were in the same direction, but a little further along only Fish Falls was signposted. We had to walk back to the car park and right to the other end away from the Zumstein house to find another sign to Mackenzie Falls - it was essentially to Fish Falls and then on to Mackenzie Falls but the sign to Fish Falls didn't also indicate that this was also the way to Mackenzie Falls. A lovely walk mostly in the shade and hugging the valley side combined with some rock walking and ups and downs. Marvellous!

Going down was easy.
At the falls is like heaven.
Climbing back up...death!
Seriously it’s a must go to place when you are in the Grampians. Beautiful falls to have a good dip on a warm day with the family.
There are 2 ways to get there. The longer route which is flatter and probably a couple of hours return walk or the quick 10 minute walk down the steep steps. If you’re taking the quick route, don’t bring anything heavy because the climb up is really really tough. Took us 45 minutes to get back up because we really needed to catch our breath every 15-20 meters.

We managed to view the fall from the McKenzie lookout but did not go down the steps as it was closed due to safety reasons. The fall is magnificent due to the recent bout of rain. I can imagine how majestic it would have been up close.

McKenzie Falls is one of the largest and more interesting in Victoria. On this occasion we did the 1 km walk to the viewing platform rather than the very steep steps down (and back up). Excellent views and great scenery.

Visited the waterfall with my family. We first walked to Mackenzie lookout which is an easy walk from Reed Lookout carpark. After that we made our way to the Mackenzie Falls walk which follows with steep stairs to the base of the waterfall. Be prepared to walk 260 narrow steps to reach the base of the falls, so be prepared for a climb back to the top. The beautiful sight is worth every step take we took!

The falls are spectacular, and we were recommended to go to the top car park first, and look back at them from above, before going down the road to Zumstein car park and walking up to the bottom via the Fish falls. Good call. The walk up along the river is pleasant, and well made. No hard sections really. At 7km there and back, most normally able people should be able to do it. A good day out.

The first part of the walk until you get to the steps down to the Falls is family friendly (kids from 4 years old can tackle it) and see the lookouts. There are 2 lockouts you should try.
Once you get to the steep steps, you want sure footed kids who like walking up and down steep stairs. Some kids will thrive in the outdoors doing this moderate section. Roaring falls at the bottom.
Parks Vic will close the steps if they assess that it is not safe to go down.

This amazing waterfall can be reached by a set of very steep stairs, approximately 250 of them. Going down is tricky when they are wet and slippery. Coming back up was certainly not for the faint hearted. However it is certainly worth the effort especially if there has been rain in the area.
