I've been to a lot of these type of places. Some average some excellent. This one has lost some of its potential ( the staff could be in period costume and more of them to interact). BUT the river boat cruse is absolutely lovely and the night light show excellent and should not be missed, the pianola was played for... More

Reading some of the reviews on here, im gobsmacked...did i visit the same place? 3 and a half hour drive out of Melbourne to a place that barely looked open. "Attractions" were rotting and cobweb covered. The animal enclosure was closed (we had visited 3 years previously and we had sold our 3 year old on this and the paddle-boat).... More

From the time you enter the front door, you knew this was going to be something special. Don't forget to pick up your map from reception when you enter. You were able to see functioning historical workshops, machinery and transport, people in period costume and loads of information about the historical past of Swan Hill and the Murray. You can... Have been to many pioneer settlements over the years but really enjoyed this one as we had never been on a paddle steamer. The farming equipment was interesting too

The laser light show is run every night of the year, except 2, I think they said they don't do it Christmas Day or Easter Sunday (but don't quote me on that). Wow.. the show was just amazing, it told the history of the Murray River from the start of time until now. Definitely worth a visit. For those who... More

We chose to come here in the morning as it was 35 the previous day and too hot to walk around. Very impressed with the buildings, machinery and all the old household and grocery items. Came here 40 years ago and surprised how well maintained and improved it still is. Thanks to all the helpful staff and many volunteers

We decided to visit the Heartbeat of the Murray laser light show at the spur of the moment after dinner one night. Wasn't a need to pre book but the number we rang advised us to be at the Paragon Cafe by about 8:30. We had 15 minutes and just went in, bought tickets and then waited in the cafe.... More

I came to the pioneer settlement recently with a friend of mine as history, particularly of this era is of interest to me. If you are a history museum, please stick to this. Whilst I understand that having workers/volunteers in stores is a resource, and that the more on offer to purchase generates revenue there is a limit. One of... More

Gem! Planned to drop by only, ended with spending whole day and still wanna visit again. Lovely historical shops and buildings are displayed on the block with true story and lifestyle back in a century. Lacer spectacular show at night is a must go too. You will feel every penny is well spent.

Thank Li Z
