Overview
More
Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Museum of Geraldton celebrates the rich heritage of the land, sea and people of the Mid West region. Discover ancient landforms, Yamaji history and culture, and the region’s unique natural landscapes and marine environment. The archaeological riches from four Dutch shipwrecks - Batavia, Gilt Dragon, Zuytdorp, and Zeewijk, are revealed in the Shipwrecks Gallery. Visitors can join a guided highlights tour available daily at 11.30am. Witness the wrecks of HMAS Sydney (II) and HSK Kormoran as they currently lie, 2,500 metres deep on the ocean floor, in From Great Depths, a moving exhibit and 3D film. The Museum’s shop has a great range of souvenirs, gifts and educational items suited to all ages and interests. The Museum is open daily 9:30am - 3:00pm. Closed all public holidays.

Brilliant displays that are engaging and informative, I learnt so much on this visit. Fantastic pieces and displays for adults and children. Staff are welcoming and the exhibits are valuable links in the story of our country.

This is a free museum the graphically covers many of the shipwrecks off the WA coast with particular emphasis on the Batavia. The highlight for me was the guide who spoke to the group. Her intimate knowledge of her subject kept us all totally intrigued...More

The museum here was a nicely presented and well looked after establishment with interesting local history. The lack of local indigenous artifacts and history was a little disappointing as we would have loved to learn more about the area pre colonialisation. The staff were kind...More

Interesting Museum - voluntary donation of $5 was suggested. Great exhibition of the Batavia and other ship wreaks too.

We were really enjoying the wonderful items on display when an announcement was made that the museum closes at 3pm. That is a ridiculous time to close so we only saw half the exhibits

This museum is an outstanding attraction in Geraldton and is a “must see”. We visited twice to take it all in. The focus is local with particular emphasis on shipwrecks and the sinking of HMAS Sydney II. But there are also lots of displays on...More

Friendly staff. We watched the 3D movie on the HMAS SYDNEY and wandered through all the displays. The shipwreck histories were very enlightening.

There is a box for a donation and anyone who wouldn't give one is mean spirited. The displays are excellent and tell their early history. The 3D movie of the Sydney is absolutely marvellous.
