This branch of the WA museum is brilliant. It's worth a good half a day. It has an excellent gold exhibit, as you would expect, but much more. Great old Trade Union banners. Good information about the role of the Goldfields in the Federation debates....More

We visited unsure how much information and history would be available but wow! We spent a good 2.5 hours walking round the different floors and exhibits. Especially enjoyed discovering the local aboriginal history and culture as well as the gold exhibition on the lower floor.

Numerous gold samples are displayed in a vault and interesting historical mining equipment is displayed in the museum. A lift takes you up the Headframe where you also enjoy great views of the Kalgoorlie township.

An interesting place to visit to get an understanding of the early life in the goldfields. The vault with the gold was of great interest as were the old buildings

So much to see. Well worth a long visit to find out about a unique Western Australian industry. The people who made it all happen and the difficulties they faced. Thoroughly enjoyed the museum and all the exhibits. Congratulations on an excellent museum.

Their website indicates they only close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday, so I am assuming it will be open on all other public holidays. Opening times are from 10am to 3pm.
