We were surprised to arrive here and see chalky gray rock flour water. Yes it had just rained, but when you read about this place it seems the water is always that amazing blue. Not true. While the chalky gray was interesting to look at in its own right, I'm not sure it was worth the drive there and back... More

I couldn't believe that the water was milky blue until I actually saw it for myself. But it is a really nice short walk from the parking lot to the swing bridge and overlook. But please take strong bug repellant. Everyone there was getting swarmed by biting sandflies!

Take your sandfly repellent and enjoy the scenery. Great for all fitness levels. The blue waters are just a must see if you are in the area

Well signposted and easy to get to by car. Colour of the water was stunning and the swing bridge was fun to cross. Walkways were well maintained and easy to walk. Very good for a morning walk before leaving the area.

After a short drive from Hokitika (30km) you get to Hokitika Gorge. We drove around Lake Kaniere first to see the Lake and beatiful waterfalls. The Gorge is about 10 mins walk from the car park with great swingbridge and the most blue water I've ever seen at the end.

I didn't do the Gorge, but my 3 friends did, and they all came back spouting its glories.... an easy walk and a swing bridge that was manageable even for my scaredy cat mate, who doesn't like heights (like me!!). Apparently its stunning.....

A fantastic spot of unbelievable beauty. Best seen on a clear sky day to fully appreciate the colour. Very friendly sand-flies it has to be said.

Great option for any type of weather. Lovely walk through the forest to get there and then a wow factor in the Gorge with the swing bridge and azure blue water- go for it!
