Who would have thought such a beauty existed around the quiet small town of Hokitika? It's around 30 minutes drive away from the town, but trust me, it's worth the drive! From Hokitika, there will be plenty of turnings but you will arrive safely if you follow the signboards.. The pathway in is around 650 metres long, with some bridges... More

Wasn't sure i wanted to drive into the Gorge but am so happy we did. The colour of the water was spectacular, and it is fairly remote so there were few people ad quiet. Loved it! If in the area, make is a must see

It's a bit of a drive to get there, but absolutely worth it. A fantastically beautiful place and one of the prettiest spots we visited in New Zealand. Not much walking is required and I think early morning is the best time to visit. Enjoy.

Great spot to take pictures! The colour of the water is just amazing. It's full of sandflies so take some repellent with you

Place that you shouldn't missed if you are at NZ South Island. The turquoise river is really very beautiful.

Although given rather hopeless directions at the Hokitika info centre the tedious 30km drive inland from highway 6 was well rewarded by the turquoise river and setting in general. Great bush walk to the swingbridge BUT carry the (tropical grade is best) spray on as the sandflies are thirsty and persistent.

Nothing out of the world. Just a side excursion if you are staying in Hokitika. A quick 45-60min drive from the town. A small hike takes you to the gorge. Water is fast so dont venture for a splash or bath.

Very short walk to the swing bridge which is just amazing, despite my husband swinging it a little!! The ruggedness of the water and the sound of tui singing in the bush, peaceful, dramatic, easy to negotiate, some great view points. Had a four year old who found the walk easy. The colours of the bush, the different native bush... More
