The evidence from what we heard is the rocks are now at least 2 mts higher out of the water. To be fair you would have to see pictures before and afterwards. Plenty to see if you are into seals close up and great photo opportunities looking back towards the mountains.

This is a nice walk with some beautiful views over the peninsula, nothing too spectacular though. Worth checking out when you're in Kaikoura and it's nice outside!

Expected this to be pretty stock standard average. However, it was a lovely walk and I am so glad we took the time to do it. No real fitness needed, lovely views, close up encounters with seagull nesting areas and seals. We walked along the top and then descended down to the beach to walk back. Well worth doing.

We did this hike/walk and most of it in the rain, but it was still beautiful. You see all aspects of the ocean, wildlife and town. It can be very, very windy so a nice jacket is recommended. (we were there in November) The only "challenging" part of the hike is if you do the entire loop, it may be... More

This was an easy hike that was really as long as you want to make it. Beautiful views from a serene pathway. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Kaikoura is stunningly beautiful and you can take a long walk around the peninsula and to the seal colony. If you are in luck there'll be plenty of fur seals to see. Along the way there's one food truck which is famous for seafood. My 6 year old was capable of walking from town to the seal colony without any... More

We started our walk from Point Kean, which is accessed from the seal colony. The paved path climbs up the hill to the viewpoint then the track goes along the hill top around to South Bay. The view from Point Kean to the mountains is fabulous on a fine day, as is the view of the coastline from the track.... More

A gorgeous walk that showcases the best Kaikoura has to offer. At the start of the walk, the seals are clearly visible near the car park, as are plenty of birds if you're a keen birdwatcher. As you walk up the hill in the first part of the walk, you can get a clear view of the coast and the... More

Walked from the South Bay car park and back. Options exist to walk over the hills overlooking or around the bottom dependent on tides. Option to go down onto the rocks halfway round which is what we did - plenty wildlife including seals and gull colony. Well signposted and plenty photo opportunities. A good day out and can take as... More
