It was built by Stephen the Great in 1488 and is famous for the paintings on the west facade of the church depicting the Last Judgment. The monastery is so famous that it is called the Sistine Chapel of the East, even though it boasts a detail all its own, a color that has become its distinctive sign. Voronet's blue, in fact, is currently impossible to reproduce: we can only say that at its base there is azurite, a mineral, and that the shade changes depending on the degree of humidity in the atmosphere. Parking costs 5 lei, then there is a road (about 500m) full of souvenir stalls before arriving at the monastery. Entrance fee, like almost all monasteries, is 10 lei for adults and 5 lei for students. The only regret is that you cannot take photographs inside, even though there is someone who does it secretly. Beautiful, among the 4 most famous it is the one I appreciated least, however beautiful to define it as the Sistine Chapel of the East...

Voronet Monastery built in 1488, its superb frescoes were added between 1547 and 1550 have led Voronet being dubbed the “Oriental Sistine Chapel”. We visited all the painted monasteries in the area and this was one of our favourites. Apart from the North Wall, the exterior paintings are still very much intact. Inside, the quality of the art is astounding. Due to its location it is one of the more popular sites although at the time of our visit in mid October, it was relatively quiet. There is a car park a short walk away where you are charged 2 leu. There are also toilets here.

The Voroneț Monastery is a medieval monastery in the Romanian village of Voroneț, now a part of the town Gura Humorului. It is one of the famous painted monasteries from southern Bukovina, in Suceava County.
Part of the Painted Monasteries of Bukovina, the Voronet Monastery was included in the UNESCO Patrimony in 1993.
The access cost is aprox. 2 euro and you must visit it, if you're in the area!

Ancient frescoes on the exterior walls with the adoption of Michelangelo blue colour. Frescoes in the interior are prohibited for photos. The church is active, you can buy candles, but install them in the "luminary", in the courtyard. Lots of souvenirs.

The church in this monastery must be the most famous church in Romania. Its frescoes on the external walls are incredible. Not only are the paintings beautiful and has survived centuries, but they also tell detailed stories from the Bible and from Orthodox theology. Probably the most impressive is the "Last Judgement" frescoes on the western wall. It helped our understanding of these paintings to have a local guide. Photography inside this church is not allowed (although I saw some tourists sadly ignoring this rule). It is easy to understand why this church, together with several other painted churches in the region, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The beauty of authentique paintings you will find here. Ask your heart what you feel looking this great place and listening the explanation of an authentic monk Elena. If you come to visit Bucovina do not miss this great place full of history and heart.

A sumptuous painted monastery famous for the "Voronet blue" which is found in particular on the magnificent Last Judgment on the wall opposite the apse. Very beautiful architecture and soothing interior. Note the great Romanian religiosity and the permanent parades in front The icons .

It is the most spectacular painted church of the Bucovina monasteries, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the south façade, spared from the elements, you can still see a part of the Old Testament displayed in "comic strip", painted in bright colors with a predominance of blue.
The large headboard mural depicting the Last Judgment is a masterpiece.

You must see it once in your life . They still didn’t renovate the exterior walls so hurry up to see it . Inside is beautiful restructured. It is a shame we find a nun that didn’t have the willpower to explain at lost one or two pictures . It is important for the kids and tourists to understand what they are seeing . I mentioned they don’t have a guide. Nicer they receive you , more money you donate ( it’s how I see it) .

This is definitely a must see! It is really impressing and if you have the occasion don't miss it! History and art in one place. I also liked the small stores outside that sell traditional clothing at all price ranges, food and beverages. They were not exagerated and invasive like in all other touristic atractions. I also liked the fact that the entry and parking fee were not too high.. exactly as it should be.
