If you are in the area do not miss this wonderful spot. One of the most beautiful medieval churches in Denmark, I think. Situated majestically on the top of a small hill, this church's red-tiled roof and whitewashed walls can be seen from considerable distances, whatever the direction. It is surprising that such a large church was built at a... More

This church is some half an hour walk from the bus stop and a 10 minutes walk from Groensalen. The church is in the middle of a churchyard (very well groomed) and has wonderful frescos. Sheets in Danish, English and German explain the different scenes. This is an old village church and it has been beautifully restored.

A finely structured building and then the superb frescoes inside. No... More

The frescos are painted mostly in earth colors (yellow, orange and red colors) on white background. The earliest frescos, were painted around 1350. Earlier the frescos were covered by plaster for many generations.

Beautiful setting with water view. Frescoes by the Elmelunde Master. Charming atmosphere. The frescoes portray bible scenes for the illiterate common people of that time.
