Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The opera house is beautiful. I did take a photo outside. It should be nice to have a chance to watch a concert or musical inside!

We were lucky to catch a Bach concert by NZ Symphony in this heritage building. Intimate and great acoustics. Take the time to inhale the inside ambience - old posters and quaint windows. Check it out during the day and return at night for the beautiful light show.

I didn't have a chance to see the interior, but at night the exterior lights up and puts on a colourful show.

And once they probably did. But how many are still standing and thorughly restored to practical status? See this one just for that significance, and the architecture both inside and out. Stylish eatery on the foyer level open to the public. Check out the shows. The local Musical group were about to start a season of "Mama Mia", for example, last July. Have a night out at the Opera House...in Oamaru!

Far less hassle to book online for anything. The service today at the booking counter was so inefficient that we walked away.

We fully understand frustrations at the ticket office. With four days until the Mamma Mia season opening the evening shows are heavily booked which has caused some delays at purchase point trying to find a suitable seat for patrons. Email reply from Lynda415: "Following our disappointing experience at the booking desk, we were delighted to receive a quick and sincere response from the Director, who went out of her way to compensate us and to ensure that we are able to enjoy what will be a top quality show. We thank her for this."

Visited on Sunday 29th April. This is a fine example of the many grand Victorian Buildings that still line Thames Street in Oamaru and still used today to entertain the locals . Suggest you plan to spend sometime walking along the street and taking it all in.

What a wonderful resource for Oamaru! Such a beautifully restored centre that’s clearly well used by the local and surrounding area. I’d love to come back for an event - they’re advertising ballet, to Mama Mia, to comedy over the next few months and it all looks great. Love it - well done people of Oamaru for having the vision to look after your heritage and to put it to such good use too. Awesome 😎 ...and the coffee is good too!

I have visiited the opera house cafe and bar twice monthly for the last 5 years. I belong to a group that meets in their downstairs foyer. This is a nice area with a nice ambience, for coffee and scone/toasted roll or muffin. Friendly staff, very clean, newspaper, and an opportunity to look around one of oamaru's heritage buildings. The theatre part of the opera house is used for many live shows, and the upstairs rooms are used for conference and meetings. It is a wonderful old building for those that like to view our past.
