The Te Mata peak has lots of stunning and varied walks with great views and interesting geological features. The paths are well marked and separate from the biking tracks. Views from the peak are well worth the walk up.

Te Mata Peak has multiple tracks of various degrees of difficulting to choose from. If you drive to the top there's a stunning view of Hawke's Bay, even better in the darker hours. Two different ways to drive in, a very well done new carpark,...More

Drive up to the Gates car park. Lots of parking here and great views. Lots of walk or bike options from here. Some walks are for walkers only so no worries about fast bikes. We walked up to the cafe on one of these. It...More

This is a place I was familiar with as a local attraction. My wife and I walked the purple track from the first carpark with us about 1 hour and took us through some beautiful native flora and fauna and also a lovely couple of...More

Truely spectacular view of pretty much the entire Hawkes Bay region. Great viewpoint and I’d love to watch skydivers sky diving off here.

What an amazing place to go and look around. From the views to the picnic area, there is nothing but praise for those who look after this area. The views are to be seen to be believed and we spent quite a bit of time...More

Great views on a beautiful mountain. Pity it has been scarred by the track put in by Craggy Range. It's an eyesore.

Well worth the visit. Lots of hiking or just enjoying the vistas. May not be suitable fo large motor homes during peak season.

This is my spiritual place. There is a sense of peace here, even when you are puffing up the hill! I just love it - winter, or summer - such a great sense of achievement, but also wellbeing. I love the improvements made recently.

Hi Jason R. We did this recently and the purple track round trip from the main carpark is about 1 hour. The Redwoods were in two groves we went through and would probably be between 30-45 minutes in. I hope this helps

You can walk for about an hour one way, (low tides). There is a time chart at the entrance to check the timing.

Depends on whether you're carrying a lot of equipment or have younger kids. I'd say to allow 30 minutes if so. Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would... More
