The drive to the peak isn't for the faint of heart. The twists and turns and the drop off the side of the road made my extremely pleased I wasn't driving. But the view from the top!!! Wow.

Such a lovely spot with amazing views. Excellent for walks. Great for any age and ability as there are plenty of different levels of walks.

Next time we are there we will walk up to the peak and savour those gorgeous views. Time restrictions this visit meant we had to drive up

Best views in the Hawke's Bay, if you walk it, it makes it even better once you finally reach the top. Tracks can get quite muddy in winter.

This is a regular weekend thing for my young family :) We walk the peak a lot in the summer. Our youngest is 7 and she handles it sweet as. Beatiful walk, sometimes challenging and spectacular views once you reach the top! So worth it!...More

This is one of Hawkes Bays 'must do' trips. Drive (walk, mountain bike or run) up the Peak to the viewing area at the top. If you go on a clear day you can see vast views of the Bay! The 360 degree view is...More

We were lucky enough to be at Te Mata Peak for sunset, as part of the Odyssey NZ Twilight tour and gosh it was gorgeous. The way the landscape changes with the different lighting, it was well-worth seeing. We were even treated to champagne while...More

Interesting drive up, narrow in places and very windy. Beautiful views at the top. Heaps of walkways, etc, paragliding and other sports.

Depends on whether you're carrying a lot of equipment or have younger kids. I'd say to allow 30 minutes if so. Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would... More

You can drive right to the top if you like, plenty of car parking at the top. The road to the top is quite narrow and windy however, so take care. However if you do wish you can walk to the top. Wouldn't take long for... More
