Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The artist was not there. The art is nice but do not expect anything special. The lady behind the desk did not seem very interested in the visitors.

Hi Annet, Thank you for your review, we appreciate you taking the time to tell us about your visit to the gallery. We are sorry to hear that you did not gain from your visit what you had expected. We understand that many of our visitors come into our gallery to see our principal indigenous guide Manuel Pamkal. Manuel does not work 7 days a week and his work days are subject to change depending on his roster or cultural commitments. If you were expecting to see Manuel, we advise booking a cultural experience with him or calling to see if he will be in the gallery when you visit. We also have artists working on their paintings in the gallery. This is entirely up to the artist and so is not a regularly timed event. You mentioned that our art was ‘nice but do not expect anything special’. Perhaps you did not see the mezzanine room upstairs with a selected choice of very well known and esteemed indigenous artists. If there was a particular artist, style or quality you were searching for, please ask our staff and they can assist you as we have a much larger collection that is not exhibited. In regards to the gallery assistant not seeming interested in the visitors, could you please provide more information as to how we could have bettered your experience? We pride ourselves on our customer service and are always looking for ways to improve. If you happen to be in Katherine again, we would love to book you in for a cultural experience

A must do if you are in Katherine or passing. Manuel is amazing, such a good sense of humor. In a couple of hours, we learnt so much about the Aboriginal culture and first nations way of doing things. He played the didgeridoo, we tried lighting a fire, he shared songs and stories, we got to try spear throwing and learnt about the traditional uses for native plants. His art and paintings are amazing too. Honestly, i can’t recommend this highly enough, kids and adults will all get lots out of it.

Spent an afternoon with Manuel, hearing about his childhood, learning some of his people's language and looking at the fabulous art, by him and others, in the gallery. He tried to teach us how to hunt (although we were not the best pupils). Highly recommend a visit; he is an interesting and engaging man.

Such a fabulous opportunity to hear about life from a local aboriginal man, told from the heart. Manuel shares his story, that is the story of so many people around Katherine that tourists would otherwise not get to hear. Learning to paint in the traditional way and throw a spear was a fun and challenging experience. Highly recommend this to all. The art gallery has an amazing collection for sale and the gift section is well stocked with quality products to remind us if our NT time

We had a fantastic afternoon here. Manuel was such an interesting and engaging host. We learned a great deal from his stories of a childhood in the bush. He taught us cross hatch painting and we each did a picture to take home. We also learned how to use fire sticks and to throw a spear. A really great experience in a lovely gallery space.
