Lake Argyle Sunset Magic Cruise Departing Kununurra

47 reviews
Return transfers in our air conditioned coach from Kununurra with a stop at the Durack Homestead Museum (April-October)

On our popular Sunset Magic Cruise, we’ll explore the rugged northern end of Lake Argyle while navigating through some of the lake’s 90 islands and inlets. Our Skipper will entertain and inform with commentary on the natural history and development of Lake Argyle, The Ord River Irrigation System and the Aquaculture Industry. You’ll encounter Rock Wallabies, Crocodiles, Wallaroos (Euros) and the diverse array of birdlife that call Lake Argyle home. You’ll be delighted and awed by the Archer Fish that shoot water up at your hand with amazing precision and watch a Catfish feeding frenzy. As the sun sinks behind the Carr Boyd Ranges, you’ll enjoy a complimentary drink and light snack to make the most of this magic time of day. With rugged red cliffs reflecting into the blue water, Lake Argyle is the ultimate place to catch the last golden rays of the Kimberley sun.

This is well worth the visit. It's about 10 kms on dirt road from the highway. There are a couple of gates that need opening and closing as the road runs through a cattle property. Ruth welcomed us and gave us the grand tour. Absolutely fascinating. No hard sell, complimentary tea and coffee and a very informative talk. Zebra rocks are truly ancient (over 600 million years old). We met Bluey the blue tongue lizard and had a great batch of home made scones to finish off. Highly recommended! Definitely worth the 10 kms of dirt road.

We went in the last few weeks of operation. The owner has sold to retire to another state, and the new owners wern't continuing the business. The are a couple of other places in Kununurra, if you want to get your Niue piece of zebra rock.

We drove up and down Packsaddle Road 3 times but could not locate it. Maybe it has shut or moved? Didn't waste our journey as stopped to look at the large boab tree instead.

There had a movie all about the zebra rock. Very interesting, and after the kids fed the catfish in the lake.

Definitely a place to visit whilst in Kununurra. The gift shop has a lovely selection of zebra rock and other items for sale at a very reasonable price. Make sure you visit the workshop as it is very, very interesting to watch how the rocks transform from quite ordinary to magnificent. Also request to see the 'Cyclone Tracy' and '1135' rocks
