Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Save yourself a trip there. Look at the pics that people have uploaded of it and you’ve saved yourself some time.
We thought we would have lunch there at a local cafe. You can’t even buy a loaf of bread or milk let alone a burger.
It’s residential area with a nice lookout. But that’s it.
There’s a lot of works and development happening which may change in future but right now it’s not worth it.

Such a pretty place so tranquil when we visited. Tour boats had their patrons & gone on their journey leaving us to walk around like we were the only two there to enjoy the colour of the water. Absolutely calming & serene. So nice.

This Harbour has recently been reconstructed after Cyclone Debbie had hit. Beside the terminal there is a food van, a few chairs with umbrellas so you can have a snack. We walked up to the lookout to soak in the beautiful blue, aqua and greens. A gorgeous little spot which won't take up much of your time.

Staying at Airlie beach we decided to drive out to Shute Harbour for a look. We stumbled across a look out/bush walk. We put our walking shoes on and went for the short walk and found Coral beach. WOW! What an amazing little gem. A whole beach made up of rocks and Coral. Big and small coral all over the beach and amazing clear blue water, which is not recommended for swimming. You can continue to the lookout but on that day we couldn't see much due to being overcast and not a clear day. But on a good day we can imagine you could see out to South Mole Island.

Shute Harbour used to be the main place in Airlie Beach to depart on day trips, but now there is Abell Point Marina, so Shute Harbour is not as busy. You can get a local bus there, which at $7.20 return for 2 is very reasonable. We did a walk to Coral Beach, from the lookout, which is through the rainforest down to the beach with tons of broken coral, took us about 1 hour round trip at a brisk pace. There are toilets but no longer a cafe.

We lived here for 3 years with the most amazing views over Whitsunday Passage.
It is just an enclave for locals however with the actual passenger terminal for Daydream Island and Hamilton Is. These are supposed to disappear when the Port of Sirlie is completed (if ever).
Apart from this there is nothing for tourists to do and the only acceptable accommodation is at the Motel at the top of Harbour Drive and some hoilday lets (houses).
I agree it is peacefull and away from the unattractive night life of Airlie with the attendant drugs, drunks and deadbeats.
If staying out at Shute you will need a vehicle as the closest food is at Jubilee Pocke.

We were shocked at the prices they charge here for food, sandwiches. Filthy harbor with snobby people.

Much of the Shute Harbour infrastructure has been destroyed by Cyclone Debbie in 2017. It is no longer the centre of tourist cruises into the Whitsundays. Some heavy duty boating seems to use the harbour now. The big winner seems to be that all cruises now leave from two marinas close to town, overcoming the big distance required when everything left from Shute Harbour. Now a depressing sight.

I’m coming up there in July by car to go sailing. I need to join the sail boat I’ll be on at Hamilton Island. I believe there is a ferry service I can catch to take me from Airlie Beach to Hamilton. Can someone tell me if there is a secure parking area near the ferry terminal where I can leave my car for a week?
Thanks in advance

Hi Both Airlie Beach (I image this is where you will leave from) and Shute Harbour (Undercover parking) have secure parking, just don't know cost. Phone to see where your connection leaves from as our trip to Hamilton was from Airlie Beach and was for just a day visit, parking was $4 per hour
Cheers

Just wondering what else you can do on foot around Airlie Beach. We are doing an ocean rafting experience for four hours until about 12.30 and would like something else to do before boarding the cruise ship.

There is not a whole lot to do actually. Have a coffee or go for a walk on the beach board walk which follows the beach line. There are lots of little Cafes on the walk. Enjoy😀
