Diving & Snorkelling Whitsunday Islands with QYC
Spent a wonderful week motoring around the Whitsunday Islands on Miss Saigon. We really enjoyed diving and snorkelling in Manta Ray Bay & Blue Pearl Bay, the oversized Wrasse & Bat Fish are friendly and easy to photograph. QYC staff helped make our trip more enjoyable, big thank you to you all, especially, Richard👍

Wow what an amazing thing to do in the beautiful Whitsundays.

Along with 3 other couples we have recently spent 6 extremely comfortable nights on Queensland Yacht Charters Lagoon 450 called 'Fidelio'. Each of the 4 double cabins have its own bathroom facilities and plenty of storage available to stow your luggage. We were recommended to bring soft bags not suitcases which was good as bags could be rolled and stowed into cupboards or draws when unpacked.

While half the crew did the briefing the other half went shopping at the local Cannonvale Shopping Centre to fill the cupboards with food and beverages. There was plenty of storage in the galley in cupboards, underfloor compartments, fridges & freezer for enough supplies for the 8 of us for our 6 nights.

The Inlets, Bays, Harbors and Beaches were all beautiful. QYC gave really good advice on recommended safe anchorages and detailed weather reports when skeds were done morning and afternoons.

We pre booked a night at Hamilton Island (there was a wait list of vessels who hadn't booked) which was great. We were able to refill water tanks and off load some rubbish bags. All the golf buggies on the island were booked but, as the island shuttle busses runs free of charge constantly we were able to have a great look around.

2 of our crew had sailing experience while the remainder had some boating knowledge and found 'Fidelio' very easy to sail. We enjoyed having the sails up most days.

We found the boat to be very well maintained and met our expectations for an amazing adventure. Thanks QYC

We sailed for 7 nights around the Whitsunday Islands it was so relaxing , romantic and the most amazing experience ever. We took the stay on board option the night before which made for a very relaxing and organised start to our incredible holiday . From our very first enquiry to QYC to the very end of our adventure every staff member was incredibly friendly , helpful and reassuring including our friend during scheds that made us feel safe in our decisions for the day.
We had an enormous amount of fun and learnt so much about boating that we had no idea about until Les took us out and showed us the ropes .
Thank you to all the staff for making our 30th wedding anniversary a very special celebration .

For the first week in April 22 we rented Queen Marie via Whitsunday Yacht Charters. I say “via” because it seems the transaction is directly with the owner and Whitsunday Yacht Charters simply do part of the marketing.

Queen Marie is promoted as Queen of the Whitsundays” and “Voted best power cat in the Whitsundays”. The photos on the website look really impressive.

I was disappointed with the boat. The “Best Power Cat” vote must have been long ago, the photo’s taken long ago. Calling it “Queen of the Whitsunday’s” is now a misleading exaggeration that suggests a quality level above what the boat now provides.

Ben Kerley managed the hand-over, and boat briefing, for us and did an outstanding job. When we first discovered air conditioning problems he dropped everything and jumped on the ferry from Airley Beach to Hamilton Island to help us. Our bareboat holiday in the fabulous Whitsundays was terrific but we wish we’d booked a different boat. If you’re going to have a bareboat holiday ask lots of questions before you pay. Age of boat? Any functions not working? Etc.

The Whitsundays can be hot and humid. We rented an air con boat specifically so overnights would be comfortable. Queen Marie has two air con units in the main cabin which spill a bit of cool air into the two forward sleeping cabins. It also has two further units serving the two aft cabins. One of these four units worked all the time. Two worked if you crawled Into a small locker in each of the aft bedrooms and “reset” the units but we quickly tired of that since they required resetting each hour or so. The fourth unit didn’t work at all.

Resetting the units was part of Ben’s briefing to us, plus we learnt an air conditioning technician was scheduled for the week after our rental. So the problems were already well known to the owner but were not disclosed to us when we paid, or after. We ought to have been informed and given the opportunity to reschedule or change to a different boat.

We’d paid for something that was not provided. At the end of our rental I emailed the owner and invited him to propose some form of compensation. That email was two weeks ago and I have had no reply.

We booked and paid for a charter for late March 2017 for Whitsunday Islands. Dream Yacht charter QLD did not cancel the charter no matter how many times we asked about the risk of the cyclone. they encouraged us to fly to Queensland even when the cyclone warning was increased. THey cancelled the charter when we turned up. and put our lives at risk just so they could have us claim travel insurance. Bastards .. cost us heaps to get home.

We complained to ACCC and our travel insurance company, because they refused to refund us for a service they did not provide which in Australia is against the law. Scammers made tens of thousands of dollars from charters they did not provide. Never go with them ever never ever....they are a pack of money hungry A holes..... f em....

We selected the Verve, a forty foot Fusion cat. It seemed to have everything and more - it did not disappoint. With a genset, we were able to use things like microwaves and aircon but, we didn't actually need to. The October weather was just perfect for sleeping, swimming, etc. With only two couples on board, there was plenty of room and with only one experienced sailor on board, we found the Verve easy to operate under power or sail.
From the start of communications on the phone and email to the briefing and twice daily skeds with Shane, things went perfectly. I can't speak highly enough of the staff at WYC. Shane seemed to be able to assess our capabilities and pitched his advice and guidance at the right level. Mind you, the Verve is very forgiving and just requires a level of common sense and respect. The more planning you do before you go, the better time you will have. Planning and building the excitement with your fellow travellers is half the fun. Meals, menus and supplies, anchorage, seasonal winds and tide flows, for example. Hamilton Isle is a recommended pit stop for provisions, and for a $115 24hr fee for a berth, it's well worth it as you get full use of the resort facilities. Hire a buggy for about $80 for the time as well so you can explore the island.
The Whitsundays are sublime. We can't wait to come back.

After many years of wanting to do this and missed opportunities, finally with 3 other couples we set a date and patiently waited for the day to arrive where we would fly into Hamilton Island and pick up our Catamaran the Verve. She is 40 foot long with 2 queen and 2 double beds all with their own bathroom and toilet. We were taking her from Hammo to Abell point marina with one of the WYC crew to begin our charter the next day. As per procedure a briefing was required and we managed to complete most of this on the way over to leave a few details for the following morning. We were told you can have food and drinks arranged for you however we decided to do the shop ourselves and 5 trolley loads later from the local supermarket it was stacked and put away on the boat. There were 2 fridges and 1 freezer on board and it is advisable to try to get most of your drinks and food cold as they do take a while to cool down. We ended up throwing out some chicken that had not been cooled quick enuf. There is 1100 lit of water and that lasted us the 7 days with us watching water usage a little. The weather was great at this time of the year and for a change the Queenslanders made us Victorians welcome. Great bunch that work at the WYC friendly and really helpful. The Cat was a breeze to sail and we managed to put the sails up every day in spite of the minimal wind forecasted. In doing this the fuel bill was reduced considerably even though we ran the twin motors between 4 and 5 hours a day. They recommend you get a book 100 Magic miles and that along side the chart is all that you need to navigate safely around the islands. It was a great trip for all of us and I would highly recommend using this company now and in the future. We will do this again. Happy sailing. Ron

From the very beginning (the planning stage of our trip) they were the friendliest people we dealt with. Their quote for a 4 night private charter was the best and most informative on what we could do and what to expect.
We chartered a 44ft Jeaneau yacht and she was immaculate, you could tell that she is well looked after, definitely a quality boat!
Before going out we had a briefing with the crew and went through the details of the boat and showed us how to moor and anchor, it was really interesting to learn about. Jenny (who runs the admin) was amazing and made the whole process of booking to actually setting sail simple and almost half the fun!
The sailing was absolutely amazing and addictive! So much fun to get the sails out and cruise with the wind. After coming back I understood why the crew were so happy for us getting out there, because it really is so much fun! Haha
Thank you so much for making our Honeymoon a trip of a lifetime, we hope to come back again one day :)

Marketed as a classy boat is a lie. It’s old, the toilets stink, the aircon is a non event that has you crawling under obstacles to access. Everyday someone has to crawl around in a locker to empty toilets, to pull up anchor you need to have your arm near a moving chain winch to store the chain. The fridges don’t work properly, the microwave is falling out of the cabinet, the main door to the cabin from outside needed a weightlifter to move, the floors are worn out and the outdoor furniture is cheap and not comfortable. Too many awkward and frustrating things to deal with to have a good holiday. My 4th bareboat charter in the Whitsundays was the worst thing ever.
