I live in the Blue Mountains and, more importantly, have visited many areas within the region multiple times for photography. The biggest mistake I have seen travellers from overseas make in deciding whether or not to visit the Blue Mountains is having the perception they will be seeing sights similar to the Alps or other well-known mountain regions. This is... More

Don't expect high peaks or craggy vistas. As I'm from the US, they reminded me a lot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It's only 2 hours from Sydney, so it's a nice day trip away from the crowds

The mystic color of the "blue mountains" is quite unique - it also depends on the type of day. They have a beautiful misty color and scent. We were lucky to be at a point where we had a great overview of the mountains and the Three Sisters. A beautiful day - and experience.

We didn’t join a tour because of the high cost pp (>$100aud pp). We like to go at our own leisurely pace. It is very easy to get to Katoomba station (Blue Mountain stop) via train (~2 hour ow ride) from Central station in Sydney. We wanted to go to Scenic World 1st (to avoid the tour bus crowds) &... Visited on a very hot day, on the hop on bus, good commentary, we had a map but not easy to follow and they could do with sign on the walks to tell you where to go as they where not very clear directions so we missed out on some of the sights, what we did see was the blue... More

It was surreal, the mountains are really blue and we also experienced a sudden rain on one side of the mountain while it was super sunny on the other side. Truly mind-blowing, you can revel in the magic of nature right here!

The Blue Mountains never fail to impress. The views are awesome and the bush trails are spectacular. Lots of places to visit no matter the weather. Spend a few days in Katoomba in order to see the area properly. Choose you accommodation carefully though as there are a lot of places that need some TLC, make sure you have air... More

Came up from Sydney on an overnight trip using the train. Was lucky to have a local friend/guide who took us to the lesser known but still spectacular lookouts and short trails. Phenomenal vistas that inspire that wonderful felling of the awesomeness of nature. If you're outdoorsy and like hiking make time to walk down into the valley.
