End of the tour

Our tour had seen the 3 sisters and the falls, and as we were leaving the national park, I saw this rock, open into the valley of beautiful hills and mountains.

I have lived in the Blue Mountains for 25 years and I did not know about this walk until I came across the reviews in TripAdvisor. When you get onto the dirt section of Mt.Hay Rd it is about 1 km to the signage telling visitors about the area. If you drive on another 3 km and come across a... More

This is a great walk out to fortress rock. Great views out over the southern cleared agricultural valley. But the best part of the walk is to continue down to Centennial Glenn and alongside Wall Ledge loop. Along the way you see a path heading to Porters Pass. It's worth turning down here for the 300 metres to the grotto.... More

This is a reasonably easy walk with great views. After the uphill slog we continued to the left at the intersection. This ended probably 10-15 minutes later at a spectacular cliff edge. We back-tracked, took the right hand fork and walked for another 30 minutes to a rocky outcrop with 360 degrees view of the mountains and as the day... More

After the crowds and coaches at Three Sisters, we decided to find a quieter view, so went to mount hay and got that and more!! No one was there, the drive up was beautiful, giving you a feeling of wilderness and freedom, through the trees and plants. There are many places to stop and walk, but carry onto the top,... More

A little way out of town along dirt road that requires some care in places. Short walk, approx 45 minutes return. Crowd-free and stunning views. You could drive further along Mt Hay Rd to further walks if you have the time.

We found this on trip advisor and are so glad we did. It's a lovely walk, not hard but the terrain is rocky so my sturdy teva sandals were appreciated. Drive out of Leura on Mount Hay road, and it becomes a pot holed gravel road ... We went in a sedan, not a four wheel drive and were fine,... More

The dirt road down Mt Hay rd can be a little rough but still okay for non 4wd's like my sedan. The walk is not ardous from having to deal with really steep inclines but can take some time 90 mins plus so remember drinking water etc and mobile phone covergare still very good so that is a blessing. You... More

This is a reasonably easy walk - about 1.5km each way. Most walks in the Blue Mountains involve a serious uphill slog on the return trip, but Fortress Rock spares you that exhaustion. There is a short slope right at the beginning of the walk and the rest is along a ridge to a rather impressive view. We walked in... More
