The brig Amity brought the first white settlers to Albany, who founded a military post in 1826'. The current ship was constructed in the 1970s as an exact replica, to celebrate the 150th anniversary on the Amity's voyage. Visitors can go aboard, but perhaps best not to if your claustrophobic. The Amity is part of the Museum of the Great Southern

I initially wanted to get happy snaps with the kids on the upper deck of the Brig Amity replica which you can do for the price of a gold coin donation. However, there is also a self-guided audio tour you can do below deck if you pay $5 for an adult and $2 for children: it turned out to be well worth the price. I learned a lot about the ship and Albany's history through the tour, and discovered how cramped it was to travel in sailing ships of the 19th century. In fact, on that point, if you're mobility impaired or have back issues, you won't be able to do this tour as there are tight spaces requiring you to bend over a lot and there are also steep ladders. The kids loved it too, although I was the only one that received the audio tour equipment which unfortunately meant the kids missed out on the narration: they had to hear it from me second-hand.

This is a fabulous replica of the Amity, for a gold coin voluntary donation you can walk on and have a look around. There was an extra charge to go below deck to have a look. We were happy just to experience the top deck. Lovely views , it's right near the town centre so an easy walk to get to.

We visited in March. You can go onto the Brig Amity and look around. There was also other attractions on the same site. We watched a video on the history of tree felling in the surrounding areas and visited the old goal in a morning.

This small ship has a lot to offer in the way of history and its so well displayed. Worth going 'down' into the ship once aboard, although low head room, there's a great history told on how people sailed in years gone by. Recommend viewing.

Amazing replica of a boat originally built in 1816 in Canada. Hard to believe it sailed from there around Scotland and Ireland and through to Hobart via Rio De Janiero.

Good history to read about. Several houses displaying a lot of history. Worth the visit. Museum is free but donations welcome. The replica is free to go onboard to visit.

You can look around the deck of the ship for free and pay to go downstairs. It was $12 for a family . Well worth it to have a look at how sailors lived on such a ship. You need to be able to climb and there are some tight spaces. It also included a self guided tour which was very informative. Guides at the ship were helpful and explained the history of the ship. Well worth a visit.

What a delight! Historic, interesting. We had informative help from knowledgeable volunteer Trish. What good work all those involved have done. Snow brig Amity replica reminds visitors of the great feats of our forbears in making Australia what it is in the 21 century. Take the kids! .

A short walk from town is this excellent replica of a brig. The attendant was friendly and informed. For a mere $5, you are gifted with a pleasant and engaging 45minutes (at least) of the town's history and the part that naval vessels played in the establishment of Albany. There is also an acknowledgment of the indigenous people's perspective, which is oddly lacking in so many histories. I loved this activity.
