Visually stunning, authentic and locals showering al fresco. A beautiful drive organized from our innkeepers at "GringwoWasi B&B" in Huarocondo.

The drive alone from Sacred Valley to Lares was worth the trip...the hot springs were gorgeous, clean and ultra friendly. A must stop for a gorgeous day trip...is must be one of the most beautiful routes I have ever travelled along. Winding through a sprawling green valley, we passed a couple of settlements of small houses with stone-wall pens for sheep.

Fuzzy alpacas grazing along with the sheep, and soaring jagged and snow-capped peaks contrasted with a brilliant blue, cloudless sky.

The hot springs pictures don't do justice, and this property has inspired me to continue searching out picturesque and hidden hot springs around the globe!

Lares is a small village in a beautiful landscape. From Cuzco it will take you a couple of hours. First you take the bust to calca and a second bus will take you to lares. From here it's a short walk to the thermal baths.
I stayed in the hotel of the baths, what isn't very nice but if you want to swim by night the best places. It's possible to bring your own tent here what seems a very nice option to me.
Don't be afraid of the color of the water it's full off super healthy minerals.
Last two tips:
Finding dinner here is a challenge so better be prepared and an extraordinary project involves all local people from the village and they are LOVELY, talk too them, watch and learn.

My family visited Lares during a holiday break in Peru and I was extremely disappointed. The pools were extremely overcrowded with locals as well as several large trekking groups (as that is where they camp after doing the Lares Trek) and the water was filthy! I am aware the color of the water due to the minerals is already muddy brown - but the amount of hair in it was repulsive. I did love the caves with the real Incan bones - very cool! The grounds of the hot springs were gorgeous with nice landscaping & terraces and we had a beautiful campsite - but I will never go back!

The remote Lares Hot Springs is located in an overwhelmingly scenic location, and has the potential to be a great stopover for travelers exploring the Sacred Valley. Several natural hot springs have been tapped and channeled to a series of pools ranging in temperature from mild to scalding. There are even natural hot mineral spring showers. The color of the water is a bit disconcerting, but the pools are fed by flowing water so there should not be sanitary concerns as voiced in other reviews.

The problem, in my opinion, is that the staff prefer to serve local customers who visit the facility on a day basis and clearly rather than foreign travelers who desire overnight accommodations. We booked in advance, but arrived only to be told there were no rooms available. When we presented our reservation confirmations we were given dirty rooms with no heat, no potable water, and no screens covering the glassless windows. Each room was lit by one bare bulb hanging from it's wires.

The property had a small store, but they would not open it to sell us food or water. We had to trek 1.5km in the dark to the town of Lares to obtain food and drinking water. Keep this in mind if you intend to stay overnight, as it is a good idea to arrive self-sufficient.

The view, stonework, and thermal pools are really interesting, but it would be better to camp here as a self-sufficient group instead of renting their lodging.

Our visit to Lares hot springs was arranged as part of our Lares trek, booked through Alpaca Expeditions. The day started with a very early morning pick-up in Pisaq. The drive was along a very scenic and sometimes nerve-wrecking road. The pools ranged from cool to very hot. We enjoyed the hottest pool for a relaxing soak. We had breakfast here with a beautiful view of the surrounding area. A great way to start a 3 day hike.

We decided to visit the Lares hot springs on our last full day, our accommodation (GringoWasi) offers a tour here that seemed the perfect way to relax after a weak of sight seeing. The hot springs are a bit of a drive and it took 3 hours by private car to get there, but it was well worth the drive. The hottest pool
was listed at 43C which I really couldn't stay in too long, but the pool at the end was perfect, I must have soaked a good 2 hours there. If considering a trip they have changing rooms as well as rooms to rent so an overnight trip would also be possible. There was no place to eat at the hot springs but there
was a place just down the walkway towards the parking lot that had some good food.

Terrible night in this very loudy place! Local People will play and shout VERY loudy all night long without any concern for other customers. Even wearing ear plugs, i could get asleep only from 3.30am to...5am, when other locals came to shout even louder than the other ones... And absolutely nothing done from the people in charge to maintain a calm and relaxing thermal atmosphere.
Dirty and unuseful pools.
Don't go there ;)

Much better options in the Cusco area for hot springs. Low grade pools. The men's changing room did not have a bathroom and smelled like urine as a result (guess where guys relieved themselves?) We visited Cocolmayo hot springs as a part of the Salkantay Trek and considered it fantastic.

Our tour group visited the springs after hiking 4 days on the Lares Trek. It could not have been a more perfect ending. I'm not sure what's in the water (or who's been in the water!), but at that point, it didn't matter. Just warm water and warm sunshine. Worth stopping by.

Ended the Lares Trek here in February. After ten hours of hiking in the rain, we arrived here to relax. It was amazing. Sure, I'm biased because we were cold and exhausted, but I've visited other hot springs in Peru, Guatemala and Costa Rica and this one was great!

The changing rooms aren't anything to speak of, but the shower that you take before entering the springs is water pouring through fountains onto your head, which makes it fun to take one. The pools themselves are concrete but there are different temperatures, they were clean and well kept. The grounds also offer grass and thatched type roofs for a bit of shelter.

Since it was the end of summer in Peru, the grounds and tubs were busy with many locals and everyone we encountered was very nice. Outside the baths themselves there is an enchanting old Inca burial ground and a collective store selling wares made in the local communities.
