Burg Eltz Castle make our Germany trip unforgettable! Castle is hiding middle of nature and hills. If you have energy to walk I can recommend walk from the forest to castle. It will be around half an hour walk but you will enjoy it very...More

We were visiting the area in January 2019. The castle itself was closed, it is only open from April until November I believe...but you can walk right up to the doors of the castle any time of the year. There is a steep paved road...More

When I talk about Burg Eltz I believe my eyes tell how much I loved it. Me and my friends were staying in Trier so it was a short 30 min drive to Wierschem, and I'm so glad we did it. Burg Eltz is one...More

First, you will probably need a GPS to find it. Next, trust your GPS even when it seems to take you down a walking trail or someone's driveway. I believe parking costs 2Eu, and if you want to walk the trail to the castle turn...More

One advise - come VERY early to see the sunrise from the view point above the castle and to avoid crowds. In such case you have a chance to make an iconic picture walking solo towards the castle :) Take hot coffee with you as...More

We drove from Frankfurt to Burg Eltz, it's well maintained and mind blowing how people were living in luxury before 1,000 years! There's a shuttle bus from the parking area to the castle, I strongly recommend walking to the castle.

We took the train from Trier and then hiked to Burg Eltz; it was over an hour's hike, well worth it if you enjoy hiking. The Burg has been in the same family for over 30 generations. You have to go through with a tour,...More

We went on a cold rainy day, so booked a taxi from the train station. Glad we did. We encountered a seasoned female solo traveler who said the hike was more difficult than anticipated and path not well marked. Castle unique in that it has...More

Initially, we were going to skip this but we're so glad that we went. This is one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and fairly easy to get to. If you're on a quick time line, take the train to Moselkern and grab a...More

We were on a Mosel cycling trip and stopped in on Burg Eltz along the way. This is an absolute must do, and the short hike makes it particularly magical. The hiking trail to the castle starts about 2 km from the town of Moselkern...More
