One of the great unchanged medieval castle in Europe. Totally intact and maintained as it would have been in the 1200s. Well worth a visit. You can park about 1/2 mile away and walk to it or take a shuttle bus (recommend the bus as...More

We were here 15 years ago and the tours have improved much to the better, are more extensive and interesting. This is very well worth the visit. If you park in the lower parking lot then it is a pleasant 15 minute walk to the...More

Quite impossible to describe how storybook this castle is when arriving in person. It’s best to take the hike up from the parking lot below which is nice on it’s own. Our guide led us room by room and explained in detail everything from decor...More

Germany has a lot of castle and some take more marketing space than others. Burg Eltz is in the category of hidden gems in my opinion as it sits hidden behind the mountains. The path takes you to a parking lot where you can leave...More

I really enjoyed seeing the castle. It was a quaint establishment and located in a lovely region. Also, the inside is preserved very well and I enjoyed the armor/jewelry display. The only thing I have to complain about is that we queued up to take...More

Burg Eltz is first recorded in 1157 and has been in possession of the founding family ever since. The oldest parts of the castle are twelfth century but the present look is mainly due to extensive building campaigns between the fifteenth and the seventeenth century....More

Absolutely stunning castle! Nestled into the forest, this castle is amazing. Definitely recommend skipping the footpath and walking down the road the shuttle drives. It’s all downhill and has the best views of the castle. Then take the shuttle back up since it’s a steep...More

A crowning jewel in the Mosel River region, Burg Eltz is an extremely well preserved medieval castle still privately owned by the Eltz family. The tour was one of the best, most informative I've been on. The cafe offered delicious affordably priced pastries, cakes, etc.

Yes it should be open, The website also doesn't mention anything about closure for the holidays, but I advice to go very early as it will be most likely an extremely busy day....

Agree with Brogan, you need to pre-arrange your taxi from Moselkern station or the castle itself as it’s located in a very remote area. If you intend to walk from the Moselkern station, there’s an initial 30min walk on... More
