Absolutely amazing!! The gate is open from 8am - 5pm. There is a free campsite on the road which is heading off the Information Centre. You have to buy an entrance fee of 15 $ p. Adult to have access to the lookouts which is quite worth it. We arrived in the afternoon around 4pm. In the first 30 Minutes we could see a few whales but really far away. I would highly recommend to bring your spy glasses with you! A man who seemed to be there quite often told us that the whales are really good to see in the morning, in the afternoon they often vanish for an hour and then come back. Shortly after we decided to go, a mother whale with her calve suddenly appeared just a few meters away nearby the cliffs. It was breathtaking and absolutely stunning to see these two gliding through the water directly in front of us. Such an amazing experience.

Wow - what an experience !! The whales were plentiful and they nearly all had calves and were playing close to shore an amazing experience. Very well set up facility.

We took a day longer to get across travelling west, this allowed us to take many side trips to the coast and inland and enjoy a variaety of views, wildlife and history. It did add about $250 to the journey (extra accom, fuel and meals) but well worth it.

It really is amazing to see the edge of the vast continent fall away over a sharp cliff into the great southern ocean.
The cliffs are dramatic and the millions of years of erosion are evident in the constant wearing away by the ocean pounding on the cliffs.
It is worthwhile stopping at each of the lookouts in the Nullarbor as each offers a different perspective of the Bight and the edge of the continent. It ranges from the pristine white sand dunes at Ceduna to the sharp Bunda Cliffs at Nullabor and further along towards Eucla, the cliffs give way to beaches.

We stopped at the Head of the Bight. This site is 12 km off the Eyre highway and so worth the effort. The cost is $5 for a senior. There is a lovely Visitor Centre with gifts and a coffee shop available and toilets. Walk down the walking path with shelters and seating along the way to be greeted with a truely stunning view of the Bunda Cliffs. The Visitor Centre is open 8am to 5pm Monday to Sunday during the whaling season. Off season is 1 November to 31 May. Phone: 08 8625 6201. Staff friendly. Highly recommend.

We missed the whales, but the scenery is spectacular, wild and windy! The Bluffs along the road have several lookouts. Spotted a pod of dolphins 20-30 of them circling fish and feeding at Bunda Cliffs -fantastic! The lookouts are free until you get to the Head of the Bight where all Whale watching walkways are built. they guarantee whales in Sept.

I had always wanted to see the Great Australian Bight from the land so drove from Perth to Adelaide. I visited the Head of the Bight viewing centre and although I was too late for the Whale season the cliffs were amazing I was so pleased that I did this trip it was so worth it. The centre was very informative and staff very friendly and knowledgeable. The viewing areas were very well maintained which made viewing safe with great vantage areas.

Lets face it, if you have given up 4 days to 10 days of your life to drive the Nullabor then a few breaks to look at the scenery is not a big deal. These lookouts provide the only accessible chance to safely see the amazing cliffs and ocean without a 4WD. The Nullabor hwy only comes really close to the coast on this small stretch so take advantage of it.

Head of Bight whale centre is certainly worth a visit when you are crossing the Nullarbor. The combination of the steep Bunda Cliffs and the purpose built wooden whale watching platforms, mean you are directly above the whales.
The female Southern Right whales calve here in the Bight every year and stay for months, feeding their calves, before heading back to the Antarctic. Unlike other places, the are just lolling around below you, not moving on. A spectacular sight!

They told me that they are more active in front of the coast in the morning and then vanish in the afternoon a couple of hours. We were there pretty late in the afternoon when they came back. It's been amazing. That's all I can tell you about, sorry.
