Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very enjoyable and well structured day learning to get the most out of my entry level DSLR camera whilst photographing the wildlife (mainly puffins) on Skomer. At the end of the day I have both photos I am immensely proud of and a new found confidence to find my way around my camera and use it in aperture and manual setting and adjust the exposure compensation, type of light and other capabilities I didn't even know my camera had.
Thoroughly recommended, Andy is very personable, an excellent tutor and his years of local photography experience means that he imparts knowledge and passion for the local area, wildlife and a desire to help you get the best out of the experience.

I had visited Skomer last September, after the puffins had left for the winter, and so was determined to come back to see them and get some photos. I am a keen, if very amateurish photographer, and having seen Andy Davies' workshops advertised, decided I could do with a little professional help. As I had never attended a photography workshop before, I was a little apprehensive and concerned I would feel like a fish out of water. But it turned out to be a wonderful day, despite the rather drizzly conditions. Andy's tuition is top notch - he is a natural teacher - and he makes everyone feel comfortable with their own skill level and is very patient, spending time with each of us on a one-to-one basis. He is also extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and the island itself, which all adds to the experience. And the puffins are extremely photogenic! I came away with more understanding of my camera's capabilities, some new ideas on how to look at things, and some photographs that I am rather proud of. I will definitely be looking to attend some more of Andy's workshops in the future.

Spent a day on Skomer with Andy Davies photographing Puffins and many other seabirds. The tuition was excellent, starting off with extremely informative technical tuition on the workings of a camera, followed by practical tuition on composing and taking photographs of the birds and then several hours of supervised practice. Andy is very easy going, obviously is a very accomplished photographer and tutor and also has a wealth of knowledge of wildlife. It was a fascinating and extremely rewarding day.

Having wanted to photograph puffins on Skomer for a long time, a friend and I booked a workshop with Andy Davies.
Money well spent! - it was a tremendous day. Andy keeps his groups to around 12 people and his friendly, informal style allows for a relaxed visit to Skomer, enhanced by his photographic knowledge (and ability in explaining things clearly). His extensive knowledge and experience of Skomer and its wildlife is invaluable - taking us to the best locations on the island, making the most of the hours there.
Thoroughly recommended!

Our planned day to photograph the puffins on Skomer Island was abandoned due to choppy sea conditions and the inability of the boat to land us safely on the island.
The group thus had the option to re-book or continue the day at a different venue.
My husband and I opted to continue with Andy onto the deer park and along the coastline above Marloes sands. We walked the coastal path and enjoyed the stunning sea views and scenery. There was ample opportunity to photograph landscape, flora and fauna. My husband has been interested in photography since his teens and has a good basic grasp of the subject but even he learned considerably from the wealth of knowledge and experience that Andy could provide.
I on the other hand am pretty inexperienced and snap happy! What I learned from the day is that quite often the subject will stay around sufficiently long enough for me to consider such things as aperture/focus/ISO and use the most appropriate settings for the circumstance.
We visited Marloes Mere where we spotted damselflies and dragonflies and I discovered the wonderful capabilities of my macro lens.
Despite the initial disappointment of not seeing the puffins the day turned out to be a wonderfully relaxed day of photography with expert guidance and tuition. We would highly recommend Andy's workshops and will most certainly enrol on others when in the area.

I was lucky enough to have an individual workshop with Andy around the St Bride's Bay area. He quickly assessed my level of experience in photography and was able to tailor the day to suit my needs. As a result, I received so much help and advice in improving my technique and skills. This happened not only in the field but also later in the Great Hall of the Castle where we analysed the resulting images later in the day. His patience and enthusiasm were tremendous, not only for teaching photography but also his local knowledge of the area and its wildlife. This gave me an even greater appreciation of this wonderful area.
I really enjoyed it and gained a lot of knowledge from Andy's expertise. I was astonished to realise how much ground we covered. I know the challenge will be to effectively implement Andy's advice through practise.
