Built on Gothic foundations, the castle was rebuilt into a beautiful romantic Renaissance palace. The building and its magnificent garden, call for beautiful photos and offer a good few hours of peaceful walk around. It used to be the property of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who...More

The castle and the woods around it is very nice, I would appreciate it more if there would be some place around it where I could get some healthy food ;)

Not the easiest of places to get to and, once there, the signposting from car park to entry is not great. However it is the most peaceful place, set in extensive, heavily wooded grounds which you can wander around. The castle is not huge, but...More

This ia a beautiful castle with an impressive history. WWI buffs will not want to miss the castle of Franz Ferdinand. Beware, he was an avid hunter and there are hundreds of 'trophies' hanging in the hunter hall. I was very disappointed that they keep...More

This is a must do if you're at all into the Habsburgs or WWI. And it's only about a 40 minute train from Prague. Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie lived here until assassinated in Sarajevo. The only place they were truly happy (he...More

Konopiste seems to be a much less popular tour from Prague than Karlstein Castle. But where's the latter looks great from a distance but palls as you get closer, Konopiste is the opposite. Home to Franz Ferdinand (assisted at Sarajevo) the interior is a treasure...More

Definitely worth the day trip from Prague if you enjoy history...enjoyed tour 3 the most. We did Karlstejn on the same day using Mike's Chauffeur Service...Konopiste was much more interesting.

We took the tour that included the weapons - very interesting family history as well - was not expecting this to be so interesting. Franz Ferdinand was an unusual character, as, seemingly, was the rest of the imperial family.

When in Prague and interested in recent history; it is highly recommended to visit Konopiste Castle. This is the place where Franz-Ferdinand from Habsburg lived before he was assassinated in Sarajevo; an event that triggered the start of the First World War. Try to reserve...More

No problem with parking, well, I do not know in high season. The train which can take you up there we did not see until we were back after visiting. A stop slightly up the hill was not very informative unless you speak... More
